re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

City-esque exteriors look good. It would however be interesting to see how it comes all together under 4m. Interiors compared to the Dzire's seem to be a bit drab. Hope the pricing is competitive to give this car a good shot to compete in the CS space. Good times for customers who also have competitive CS in addition C-SUV to choose from.

Dechrome/blacken that chrome bit above grill and headlight unit and we get a better looking front. ideally it should've been a shiny black plastic.

Appreciate the dashboard update, though the plastic used on it and rest of the interior screams 'cheap'.

Considering this is a sedan, there is nothing 'Plush' about the interior. Have to give it to Hyundai for making cars like i10 with a far better interior for a cheaper price.

More than half of City sales has already been taken over by Elevate, this will further lower the City Sales.

Reading this brings an instant thought to my mind about the different paths the auto designers are taking in our country. So within a span of a day or two we have two cars being revealed (Amaze not yet officially revealed though) - on the one hand we have the Mahindra BE 6e and the XEV9e and on the other we have the Amaze. I totally agree that both the cars are from different segments, one is an EV and the other a more traditional ICE etc. etc. It just comes to show how the different companies are approaching the Indian market in terms of their designs.

The Mahindra with its new designs have gone all out and created some flashy, bold looking designs (too far on certain extent and kind of risking it) and Honda on the other hand have as always gone the conservative way by looking into their current portfolio for "inspirations" for their evolutionary designs. Even Maruti learnt this the hard way and have broken from their image of building on the same designs with the new Dzire.

Again I also know for a fact that the Japanese have always taken the risk averse kind of approach, but it is high time that Honda wakes up and gets in some radical designs from their global portfolio and step up the design game.
Honda it seems still needs more validation from the Indian market when the country has loved their engineering and technologies for decades.

Mods: I am not sure if this is the apt thread for this discussion, however please feel free to merge this post with the appropriate discussion elsewhere.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Love the BIG grill on the Amaze.
Honda has slapped aerodynamics on its face with this. Big grill looks made Elevate an absolutely macho SUV in the sea of CUV's, and this fat grill gives amaze a much needed character that it was really missing earlier.

The original amaze v1.0 looked so distatsteful from the front, when the brio which it was based on looked cool.

The dashoard looks so classy and elegant. Not to mention the chic steering wheel from the city. The dash in dzire has 7 layers and looks like it borrowed parts from all other maruti cars.

I hope Honda does sell this in Taxi as well, India deserves a premium taxi sedan, the Dzire Tour taxi looks so WagonR these days.

Something a miss here as I was viewing the snaps .The arm rest in-between the front seats seems to be missing here..... I wonder if this is the new trend or just a deletion done . The same was pointed out to be missing in the New Dzire also.
The current gen Amaze also misses out on front arm rests. These are sold separately as an optional accessory by the dealers. Not sure of the make though.

Unpopular opinion: Honda (and Maruti), would might eventually stop City (and Ciaz) altogether, and have only the Amaze (and DZire) as the only sedans in their lineup.

The Compact sedans not only are now coming close to the C-segment in terms of looks and features, but price as well. And given the profit margins on Compact sedans vis-a-vis C-Segment sedans, I doubt it would be worthwhile for these manufacturers to continue with City/Ciaz et al.

Honda's case I am not sure, but in case of Maruti Suzuki, that seem to be the plan. (refer podcast by ACI)

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Is there any one else who feel the tail lamps on Amaze looks too much out of place?
Honda copied their own design, should have spent some efforts to redesign and reduce the tail lamps size from City to look more subtle for Amaze.
I feel that the tail lamps are going out of the car body way too much and looks like someone added City's tail lamp to Amaze aftermarket. Tail Lamps will be prone to scratches, dents, cracks.

Clearer front pic from Powerdrift, attributed to the same source.

Honda should chop off the boot and call this a Magnite rival. Looks more crossover from the front than sedan!

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Its a tough ask creating a sub 4m sedan on its own for any manufacturer especially since the stupid 4m rule applies only to one particular market for the brands.

Many manufacturers have tried their hands and given up knowing how hard it is to make a sedan out of a hatchback and still keep it within 4m and on top of that keep it spacious for 5 passengers.

I'd give Suzuki and Honda some slack for still giving us something in this price segment considering everyone else is focused on 10 lakh plus costing crossovers and suvs.

The new Amaze and Dzire should be the bare minimum options this side of 10 lakhs for anyone who wants a 4+ seater with a spacious boot.

The i-Size rear seats are a strong indication that they are targeting a high NCAP rating. Honda have their own i-Size line of child seats available in India (on paper at least) since the Elevate launch, so it could even one-up the Dzire and manage a 5+5.

I guess it is the side profile. Almost identical from the side, although the creases have been smoothened out a bit:
