re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Current Vs Upcoming Amaze!

- The new front design does not suit a Sedan
- For the rear, the current Amaze looks more proportionate
- Interiors is where the New Amaze stands out

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Some of the customized sketches in the initial pages created a lot of interest, but don't know if this now can actually be called the Next-gen Amaze. Going by the spy shots this is a facelift.

Looks like Honda is keenly following the Germans' policy of creating similar looking cars that are shrunk dimensionally.

Are the 3 rear headrests adjustable? I can't quite figure this out from the photos.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

At this point they should put the 1.5 engine in this generation of Amaze and the 1.8 engine from the Civic in the City and make it a more VFM car than it is currently. Honda was at one point known for the premium feel but the current City doesn't have the charm the previous versions had (this might be personal bias because the third gen city was phenomenal in design)

Finally some sense prevailed. I recently checked out the new facelift model of Dzire with Sunroof. Completely useless feature on a sub 4 meter compact sedan. It even compromises headroom inside a car where space is a luxury. I am totally fine without it. Removing it will save atleast ₹50,000. Same goes with 360-degree camera. One can easily judge the surroundings in such compact car. Relying on a poorly calibrated and low resolution 360-degree system is actually distracting while parking.

Having said that, I would have really preferred ventilated seats. Judging by the intensity of summers nowadays, I think one should think this feature as a must have. Especially on long drives, it's a boon.

Hope they price is competitively. DZire ZXi plus MT is 11.3 L on road. If Amaze is priced on similar lines, it will be interesting.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

I am afraid that this will go down the sales chart just like the Elevate as there is nothing exciting or new about this car than just a generation change.

The interiors already look like they are a generation behind. The rear end reminds us of many similar vehicles we have seen here in India.
Adding the fact that the new Dzire is running alongside (and that too with a 5 star safety rating) may not go down well for the Amaze.

So pricing will play a key role or else the Amaze can settle for a conservative 3K- 4K volumes per month initially for the first six months and then continue at 2-3K volumes.

I must say I prefer the old one after seeing the new model. Not because I own one, but the old car has very clean lines. New one has curvy and a fluidic design language if you ask me, just like all the other Hondas.

Bash me how much ever you want, but I was expecting sunroof to be offered. Sunroof on a sedan is a very cool thing IMO. It just makes a sedan feel much more premium.

And I am surprised about the interiors. Somehow it looks el cheapo economy grade to me, especially the black plastic on the dashboard. The 2nd gen Amaze does not feel like this.

You may be right from your point of view.

Agree that the first gen Amaze was based out of the Brio platform and was not that well built.

However the second gen Amaze launched in 2018 was based out of the City platform and has a strong structure and underpinnings and is definitely very well built. It scored a 4 star rating with just 2 airbags back then with no compromise to its structural safety within the testing limits.

The Dzire on the other hand has been flimsily built and has been scoring zero stars with compromized structural safety all along. Maruti's mindset and even their leadership's rhetoric all along has been to sacrifice safety and focus more on FE, lower pricing and higher sales.
Now they seem to have realized that safety indeed sells in India (as proven by Nexon and other Indian OEM vehicle offerings) and have now upped their safety game which reflects in the latest Dzire, which is good for Indian customers.

At the end of the day both products are built to a cost and hence both have visible cost cutting factors and can't be called as premium although the Amaze certainly has a "relatively" more premium factor than the Dzire.

Reliability wise they may be at par since they both have the Japanese vehicles DNA.

But has the above characteristics of the Dzire translated to better sales compared to the Dzire? absolutely not, like as mentioned in your post.

A better product need not translate to a higher sales in our market as we have seen with several great vehicles in the past that have been launched.
There are a lot of factors that make a vehicle popular, its all about perception and value from the customer's/buyer's view point.

Configurable, and completely based on your demand. If you ask for a + (Plus), you get sunroof. Otherwise, the model we asked for doesn't come with one. Moreover, headroom isn't compromised as you state, (as I observed). And no 360 camera either.

But I was expecting it. Check my earlier post:

Anyway, these are stretched images. For reference, current gen Amaze is very narrow at 1695mm.

We can expect a taller but narrower car instead of the wide-body car shown in teasers.

The rear door looks exactly same. I dislike the alloy wheels though.

On a lighter note, thanks for using a picture of my car

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Disappointment after disappointment. Atleast they are consistent. Honda has the best/worst fans in all of automotive industry. As consistent as they are with evoking these negative emotions with each launch, the fans will turn against them sooner than later. I for one, wanted to throw my phone when I saw that stupid rear. I can almost see it coming out with the same skinny tyre from last gen. There are some soap boxes with more effort going into their design than Honda (India) cars.
