re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

I think the extra 33 mm width comes from the protruding tail lights.

Facelift Amaze looks better with less chrome / bling.

So weird that how they've just used the Elevate like front design and straight up City like tail lights at the rear. Can't believe Honda took so long for this.

ADAS if coming will be pricey which will steer people to other segments. The final nail in the coffin would be the pricing though.

IMO this is a very weak attempt by Honda. Copy pasting elements from their other products will not work. Maruti on the other hand has done a fabulous job. This launch will soon be forgotten. I won't be surprised if people lose interest the moment Honda India reveals the pricing.

They should do away with the third box/ boot and launch this as a mini / micro/ pseudo SUV. In the Exter's segment.

In this iteration, rear is still acceptable but don't know how a sedan with a mini SUV look will be perceived by buyers of this segment.

What a disappointment, Honda!

Honda sticking to its conservative nature in India will be detrimental to their future. Being conservative at the time when customers started seeing "radical" or quirky cars enthusiastically.

Honda missed the bus, I think so, yet again.

Conservative buyers will go with a Maruti Suzuki! Honda has lost its USP.

Even if someone did, it would be shot down. Amaze is sub 4m and plonking in the 1.5L engine will take away the excise duty benefits. Maintaining 2 engine options probably isn't worth it for Honda as that will give rise for a need to train mechanics, sales, re- engineering some mechanicals, perform variant certification - for a small group of enthusiasts. The average consumer will hardly notice the difference , unless out on open roads.

If they could tune the 1.2L for more bottom and mid range grunt, it will be more impactful than plonking in the 1.5L engine. It will lose the "high revving" Honda character but then, how many Amaze consumers will redline their cars frequently?

Honda tried to fool the people by releasing a 'wow' teaser during the Dzire launch days.

But as reality dawns, who is the fool?

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

My mindshare after observing Honda India for more than a year or so,

I am little surprised on why there are lot of disappointments called out. The rendered one had slightly sharp eyes whereas the reality version has bolder ones. If the front look pose is parked slightly in side ways, except for the eyes, the flood light lamps, the grill, the alloys, the sliding bonnet will all look similar if not the same. And I don't see a reason why they should not copy/paste a.k.a reusing some of the bits that goes well with their other versions for the second best selling compact sedan. This gives them cost optimization is a very fundamental logic. There will be "usual" buyers who wanted to get Honda cars and the refresh/updates will be conceived as fresh version in their eyes.
Honda mostly looks for exports to other parts of Asia to happen both for four wheelers and two wheelers considering India as economic centre for them to manufacture their products here. So the design, the product, features will be decided not just considering India but the export markets. For eg: Elevate seems to have been received well in export markets. Amaze is already catering to those markets. Whatever share of 2% or less sold here is added bonus.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

I forgot one love the new design of the Amaze. It is absolutely lovely taking the best bits from the more expensive elevate and city. Now I just wish -
i) it looks proportional on reality as it does in the pics
ii) The pricing is good
iii) There is a good safety rating 4+ stars
iv) GC is decent (slightly higher than previous amaze)

If all the above are true then I will buy the CVT one for my wife who is a new driver. We only have 2 options per se - Kylaq and Amaze. Kylaq has 2 BIG advantages - no boot for newer drivers, higher GC for nasty gurgaon roads. Honda wins on smooth and reliable 1.2 iVtec engine, CVT smooth transition, lower and better service (already have 2 hondas in family), more space(?)

I wish Honda gives a top-end Amaze with all features except ADAS. Please don't force us ADAS , Honda!

I completely agree with you.

It's my personal opinion but I would much rather learn and drive more to improve my skills everyday rather than depend on computers to handle my car for me. There are only few things I like from ADAS technology (not specific to amaze)

* High beam assist (only for highway, within city no matter what keep I keep low beam)
* Lane watch (again only for long drive on highways)|
* Cruise control with safe distance assistance

If given a choice I would Happily exchange ADAS for the following (some of which seems a miss from leaked photos)

1. Leather wrapped steering wheel
It does two things, one adds to the premium experience when you look at it and two it feels better to hold.

2. A reversing camera with MUCH better clarity (even at night) with guidelines
This actually helps in everyday situations and makes parking at night very easy.

3. Auto-Dimming rear view mirror
Amaze has a manual one I think. With most drivers using high beam constantly without understanding how they are causing trouble for others, it just helps if the car does it for me.

4. Better Sound Insulation
Makes the overall experience of living with the car more peaceful with all the increasing noises around.

5. UV Cut glass all around
This is a small thing but can improve the experience of being in the car a lot. Like how the Suzuki Baleno has UV cut glass.

6. Adjustable head restraints for front and rear.
Helps a lot on long drives when one wants to take a nap at the back seat. Plus if it's adjustable then everyone can be in relative comfort and safety irrespective of their height.

If the above listed 6 things are available in any car in exchange of ADAS or that useless hole on the roof "sunroof", I'll happily trade anyday

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

1. Pricing will be key.
2. Safety rating would be interesting to see.

Hope the absence of (useless) sun roof doesn't create negative mindspace.
