re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

To be honest, all three-box design under 4m would look like it drove into a wall. The Amaze looks well proportioned to be fair to Honda.

The company has to get design cues from its existing lines, and Honda did not have to look beyond their best seller, which at that point was also the segment leader.

The understated look works well for the car. I look at one everyday (a neighbour has the car) and often think that it would be an amazing daily drive.

A sub 4m two-box design based on Amaze would also add good volumes to their production line. Sooner than later, Honda.

As someone interested in the current gen Amaze, what would be the right time to buy? I'm not in a hurry and also would need to think about going for an older gen vs an improved product, of course the cost is an important factor. Any recommendations or suggestions please?

I don’t recommend the Amaze. It has decent space and is reliable, but so are so many other cars in that price range. The car is extremely tinny and really built to a cost. Extremely prone to dents and very poor insulation. The engine is also weak and really needs to be wrung from the neck to get any power out of it. Cabin quality and feature list are also lacking. Ride quality is also pretty bouncy at speed.

On the positive side, this could follow the current Honda sedan design pattern, which looks interesting.
(Rumoured upcoming design of the new City)
Attachment 2578001

The car in the picture is Honda Inspire (Accord for China). While the new city might borrow some design clues, I highly doubt if it would be anywhere close to Accord’s premiumness. Honda fanboys (including myself) can only dream though!

Back to the topic, I think Amaze should get City’s interior and City should get Civic type if not Accord-ish interior, considering Honda India’s flagship is the City.

The Autocar article says the new Amaze is likely to get an Elevate-style floating infotainment unit which (in top variant) is already more premium than the City's (even leaving aside the possibility of retrofitting the Japanese WR-V's system).

I do hope the Amaze is specced well for safety as that has been one of its USPs in the segment.

Amaze getting better infotainment would be the final nail in the coffin for City because Elevate is already cannibalizing the sales on the other end of the price spectrum.

If the new Amaze is launching this Diwali as per rumours then you can expect Honda to be stopping production anytime this month to clear inventory.

One thing about Honda be it two wheel or four is that they keep production line in anticipation of demand and everytime a new facelift or model is to be launched they'll stop production of the outgoing model early that year and let dealers sell the leftover stock months before the new model hits the showroom.

So you might get better financial year end offers if you go for the current Amaze like my cousin did last month and there's more room to negotiate so the dealer can be squeezed a bit to let go his profit margin to hit that FY end deadline.

If you wait for later on chances are the inventory will be sold out and your only option is to convert your existing Amaze booking for the newer model.

I wish Honda offers adjustable headrests in this upcoming model. The fixed headrests in the current gen are useless, and IMO this is a major major irritant.

It is still possible it will get the system from the mid-spec Elevate which is similar to the one in the current Amaze. The Elevate ZX has a different unit.

In any case they should be swappable with the Japanese WR-V if it can be sourced.

The fixed head restraints aren’t the problem: it’s how small they are. The City for example has fixed head restraints for all seats but they are large enough to support necks of a wide range of occupant heights. The ones on the Amaze and non-magic-seat versions of the Jazz were almost nonexistent.

Yes I should have elaborated properly. City has decent sized fixed headrests. But the one on the Amaze are just too small. These are a safety hazard IMO. I wonder how these got approved by the top bosses. They provide zero whiplash protection.

For a pure business point of view, Honda should focus on getting new SUV too. Their single SUV (pseudo) wont afloat their sale for long and a single CAR per year strategy will fail too given that their is rumour of Ford launching a SUV at similar price and Mitsubishi re-entering India.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

The Amaze seems to have cruise-control (CC) in the manual transmission variants only. Why is that?

In the upcoming refresh (has it already come out?), will CC be offered in the CVT variants too?

May be, anyone of these could be the new front end of the next gen Amaze?

The first one is the 2nd-gen WR-V from Indonesia, the second is a baseless render. There haven’t been any sightings of the new Amaze yet, not even in camo, so all the guesses out there are quite optimistic. It’s even harder to predict because the platform is not shared with the old one.
