re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

This is a good car, I am sure, but there is no WOW factor vs the last gen Amaze and Indian car consumers are usually hungry for something that "Amazes" them. Mahindra knows this well. So does Tata. This Amaze is essentially the same car with some updates in design and features. That is about it. Compare this to Dzire where the engine is all new and the manual transmission has been reworked significantly to make it really slick and the mileage figures are really good.

For buyers who are willing to explore used car options, the 1.5L NA Honda City is available between 10-12 lakhs on Spinny etc (verified cars). Why will one buy the new Amaze?

From my side, a big thumbs down to the new Amaze. Slap on a 1.5L NA from Honda City (like Toyota did with the Liva) or a small proper hybrid and then you have my attention.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

A really nice car, they nailed the styling I think, especially from the front and rear, the side profile will always look kind of awkward because of the dimensions of this segment of cars.

Side Note: The photo op for the car they did after the launch has to be the one of the most Japanese thing ever, it was so organised and procedural, I don’t think any car maker from another country does this.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

The New Amaze seems like a perfect blend of style (Front borrowings from Elevate & rear ones from City) and substance (4pot mill, ADAS > Sunroof) with reasonable pricing to boot. A winning formula!

Interestingly, these renders suggest significantly more ground clearance on the new (172 mm) vs the outgoing (170mm) which is practically the same.

These slim tyres on the new one though, look horrible (similar to the new dzire). Should be the first thing to upgrade right outta the gate.

Finally, who would've thought this winter would bring heat to the beleaguered sedan segment. And now we have a worthy matchup between 2 fighters with very different approaches.

Kudos Honda for not elongating the launch by unveiling first and revealing the prices after a few months.

I hope every other OEMs follow this way. Maruti already does this— Kudos to them as well.

Coming to the pricing of Amaze, I think it's decently priced and will increase the sales figures of Honda marginally.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Wow! Looks like a real genuine effort by Honda to get back into the game. But I don't like the fact that the interior is similar to the City/Elevate. Nothing wrong with it, in the sense that it will be functional and without any problems but I don't like it. Also, it's interesting that Honda gives the same power window console in every iteration of City and Amaze, but no one complains. Yet every Maruti review thread bashes Maruti for using the same switches and console for ages!

One thing is for sure. Those headlights are going to be the best in the business below 12.5 OTR.

Honda, can you chop that boot and bring back Brio with an all-black interior?

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

A story of sour grapes? Honda takes a veiled dig at Maruti Suzuki Dzire!

President and CEO Takuya Tsumura:
Quote:
"Amaze serves as the entry model in our line-up and contributes to about 40% of Honda Cars India's total domestic sales. While the other models in the segment cater to the commercial taxi requirements in a big way, Amaze enjoys the preferred personal car status among its buyers."
However, Maruti is not offering the new Dzire in the fleet segment, which is being catered to by the old Dzire-based Tour S. In the Dzire portfolio, the fleet segment has a share of 30-35%, while the personal segment accounts for 65-70% of the sales, according to India's largest carmaker.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

The Mrs drives a 2023 Amaze. The word that comes to mind is “utilitarian”. From driving to the fit and finish, everything seems built to a cost and ticks all the boxes without having a “wow” factor in any aspect. Even with these cosmetic changes, I doubt that will change. An average performer at best which will keep Honda afloat in India. They need a blockbuster and while they gamely tried with Elevate, it clearly wasn’t enough.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

While this is mostly old wine in new bottle, it is still a good attempt. They have toned down both the front and back to make it more agreeable for sober folks. The change of dashboard is also a big step up. The new dashboard is classy. With the car being kitted with most features which are par for the segment, I hope this proves to be viable competitor and brings good volumes for Honda.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

It’s a a very sensible or rather driver oriented launch I would say where they gave more importance to the technology like ADAS over gimmick like a sunroof and still kept the cost in check. And why try to fix something that isn’t broken by giving a 3 pot engine instead of a 4 pot tried & tested one?
A lot of folks might criticise saying that they might have given it a 1.5 litre engine from City, but in that case, it could not get the sub 4 metre tax benefits, for which the petrol engine must be below 1.2 litres. Only thing they could do was to put a turbo, but looking at the case of City’s engine, that was anyway not going to happen from the lethargic Honda India management; and that too in the compact sedan segment where the only turbocharged engine(of Hyundai Aura) was rather axed few months back!

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

I am on the lookout for my first car and the Amaze is one of the shortlisted cars.

I must confess that I am a bit disappointed with the pricing of the 3rd gen

The top trim is out of my budget.

I have noticed that the 3rd gen VX CVT is similarly priced to the 2nd gen top trim CVT.
There has been a 50k discount since many months and then there may be more discounts considering the new launch.
What do members think of getting the 2nd gen top variant against the 3rd gen mid variant?

The car looks decent. But, it is hard for me to consider any Honda car until they make their spares available off the counter. Getting spares is only possible through their authorized service centers. Hence, local workshops are reluctant to do any major repairs on Honda cars.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Spotted a car in Pune today in heavy traffic.
Anyone would mistaken it to be the 5th gen city when spotted from rear.
I believe some design elements to make the car look distinct from the existing line up would have been appreciated by the market.
The interiors of the car are definitely a USP and looks and feels premium.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Forget all the connections to Elevate and City; look at this as a fresh launch, it
  • Looks fresh and proportionate
  • Has 4 cylinder engine
  • Has Sports mode in CVT with paddle shifters
  • has ADAS !
  • has NORMAL ROOF, read as no sunroof

Also Honda’s 10 year warranty! This is the best attempt by Honda after a long long time. This definitely deserves to sell in very good numbers.
