I am surprised that even the top variant did not have Hill Hold.

So during launch it was mentioned that these are introductory prices and will last for 45 days.
Is this some sales tactic or will the prices go up later?

Re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Honda Amaze VX CVT vs Maruti Suzuki Dzire Zxi AMT, which is better?

(based on parameters like ride & handling, features, legroom, refinement of CVT-vs-AMT based on actual user-experience (not just theoretical knowledge/hearsay), reliability, purchase-cost, fuel economy, service cost, parts-availability, and looks (last one I agree is subjective))

Re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

For one, I am SO glad they haven't given sunroofs, or have they? The 3rd Gen Amaze still comes with the 1st gen engine. And still no rear headrests! Fixed ones are just not cool, I mean cmon Honda! With 5 seated, this power train feels out of breath, experienced multiple times. Miss the good ol I-dtec. Another missed opportunity, we deserve better and Honda needs to stop treating us like this. Counterparts will outclass this one yet again. I see the usual <5k units/month. Also for taller passengers the rear headroom isn't generous.

When other manufacturers are doing such a job, people say it is a lame effort and cost cutting, but when Honda is doing it, some people call it "class".
Haha I don’t see why praising a product constitutes being a fanboy. My family has never owned a Honda, but we did own Maruti twice. Of course the Amaze is no match in front of a City or a Civic. But that’s the point, they are not sold at the same price point. It’s a classy product of the segment it operates in
Compare it with the Dzire, not with other high end Honda’s.

The new Amaze is like Tabu while the new Dzire is like Kareena Kapoor. Both are great in their work but Dzire has more swag and likeability in my opinion. My heart still goes for Dzire.
Note: Comparison done with all due respect.

It has Hill Hold - named as Hill Start Assist.

Does this car not have a center armrest for the driver? I can see the rear AC vents but not the center armrest in the pictures. That would be weird as it even has the center armrest fr the rear passengers.

It's available as an additional accessory, confirmed the same with dealership. I believe they have tried some smart methods to keep the price below 10L so customers can save on additional taxes. It is a good tactic.

Re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Took a test drive of the new Amaze- both manual & CVT variants today.

Looks: Subjective so totally skipping this aspect.

Cabin Experience: Looks very similar to the 2nd gen Amaze. Bright and airy. Honda is a master at creating space!
As usual Honda has got the ergonomics spot on. Other OEMs should take a page out of Hondas book on this. Gear stick, steering stalks, steering well- it all simply falls into place.
Dashboard is neat and minimalistic. The TFT screen is a welcome change. The Elevate effect is visible- which is perfectly fine. After all that’s a 2 segments higher car.
The left lane watch feature is brilliant- a boon for congested city driving. This feature will, in the future save many Indians from potential arguments /hazards/incidents – am referring to bikers coming from the left! Praise due to Honda.

Engine: Tuning is even better now. The 4 pot engine purrs on ignition. Low end torque is adequate and revs are well below 1500 rpm. This is even smoother now- I mean it-test it to believe it. Interestingly the new car has a throaty exhaust noise ala pseudo-header. Optimal sound- neither distracting nor noisy.

Transmission:
Manual- Gears slot effortlessly into the gates and give a fuss-free experience.
CVT- crawls at 7kmph. Caress the accelerator and car picks up speed. As mentioned earlier the tuning has been optimized. Rubber-band effect exists but has definitely been reduced. This is a true automatic and continues to outperform AMTs of Aura, Dzire & Tigor.

NVH: Insulation has been improved. Noise ingress (read chaotic traffic noise) has reduced albeit marginally.

Steering: is adjustable for height, it is the same piece from the outgoing model. Responsive and weighs up with speed. Gives a secure sense of being in control.

Ride & Handing: Weight of the car is evident- in a positive sense. This added with the fact that as a sedan with lower centre of gravity it sticks to the ground. This car rides like a car from the higher segment. Reminds me a bit of European sedan riding quality. Rear springs have been stiffened- the back does not bottom out or waft around.

Other Aspects: Shift level illumination, Hill Hold Assist & Wireless Android Auto are welcome features.
Touch screen & sound system was good. To be honest though I was more focused on the mechanicals. Fellow BHPians can add further value.

As usual the local Honda dealership handled my TDs with aplomb. I also observed good walkins and a general positivity in the showroom staffs body language. Hope it lasts!

I have noticed that the 3rd gen VX CVT is similarly priced to the 2nd gen top trim CVT.
There has been a 50k discount since many months and then there may be more discounts considering the new launch.
What do members think of getting the 2nd gen top variant against the 3rd gen mid variant?
Go for it! Same engine, transmission, more features at same price of VX 3G. Cabin is almost the same. Since your budget is restricted take it. 10 years anytime warranty-You simply cant go wrong with a Honda.

So I guess the figure quoted by Honda holds good.
Agree. I got 22 kmpl on a 220 km highway (plains). Kept the car at 1500 rpm, 80 kmph.

Typically in =city NCR I get 15 kmpl.

Just compare the dashboard design of the Dzire with the Amaze. Honda simply outclasses maruti here. Folks who appreciate quality and class will simply go with the Amaze than the Dzire.
Agree on most points. My question- what is the potential risk of a 'barebones' version. By keeping the entry level lower wouldn't this add to potential interest Honda is challenged by mediocre sales. A lower price point might bring in more potential sedan aspirant customers.

If a lower price point is unprofitable then I guess it makes sense.

Are you recommending to get the VX 2G over the VX 3G?

Post 316 shows what additional features the 3G has got over the 2G.

Features that are available in 3rd Gen VX variant but not in 2nd Gen VX variant (CVT):

1. 6 airbags
2. Lane watch Camera
3. Headlight integration with wipers
4. Middle rear seat headrest
5. All three point seat belt
6. Rear AC
7. Soft closing foldable grab handles
8. Fully digital instrument cluster
9. Shift Lever illumination (CVT)
10. Wireless Android Auto/Car Play
11. Power window Key-off operation
12. Driver sun visor vanity mirror
13. 6 Speakers (4+2)
14. Fully upgraded touchscreen infotainment system (20.3 cm against 17 cm in previous gen).
15. ESC with traction control
16. Hill start assist.

What you will miss out:
1. Diamond cut alloy wheels

I would expect at least 50k cash discount for the 2G if it is in stock (maybe more since the 3G has been launched).
Any advice whether the list is accurate? And if so whether the 3G is worth spending the extra 50-100k compared to 2G.

Honda launched the third-generation Amaze in India. It will be available with a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 89 BHP and 110 Nm. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 7-step CVT with paddle shifters. Deliveries will begin in January 2025. You can download the 2024 Honda Amaze (3rd Gen) brochure here - 2024 Honda Amaze Brochure.pdf

Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-1.jpg

It will be available in 3 variants – V, VX and ZX. Here’s a look at the full price list of the Honda Amaze:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-2.jpg

A lot of BHPians have already mentioned this and it is pretty evident that the Amaze has a mini-City-like look. It measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,733 mm in width and 1,500 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,470 mm and the ground clearance has gone up by 2 mm to 172 mm:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-3.jpg

The kerb weight has gone up in comparison with the 2nd generation Amaze. While the previous car's weight was in the range of 920 - 957 kg, the 3rd gen Amaze has a kerb weight of 952 – 987 kg. This Obsidian Blue Pearl shade has been newly added to the 3rd gen Amaze. I have to say, it does look similar to Maruti’s Nexa Blue:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-4.jpg

The bonnet and the front grille look very much like the Elevate. The flat front end gives the car a muscle car-like look. In person, the 3rd Generation Amaze looks more like an evolution than a revolution from the 2nd Generation Amaze. Yes, it looks different, but the design changes aren’t very radical:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-5.jpg

You get dual pod LED projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs that also double up as turn indicators. Below, the fog lamps are also LED projectors. Note that this car is accessorized with chrome on the lower part of the grille, on the fog lamp housing and on the lower part of the bumper:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-6.jpg

The Amaze is the first car in its segment to get ADAS. Honda kept on highlighting the fact that the Amaze is the most affordable car with ADAS in India. This is a camera-based system and has features like Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist System, Lead Car Departure Notification, and Auto High Beam:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-7.jpg

While the wheel size remains the same at 15 inches, the VX and ZX variants get wider tyres of 185/60 section (2nd gen had 175/60 section):
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-8.jpg

You also get Honda’s lane watch assist camera on the left ORVM:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-9.jpg

Chrome door handles were added to the 2nd gen facelift that came out in 2021. Those have been carried forward. Both front doors get request sensors:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-10.jpg

Rear wheels get drum brakes. This is pretty much the standard across this segment:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-11.jpg

No variant badge at the rear. You just get the Amaze badge on the left and the i-VTEC badge on the right:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-12.jpg

Wing-shaped LED tail lamps look similar to the Honda City:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-13.jpg

Overall design has changed, but again just like the outside, it’s not very different:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-14.jpg

You get the new Honda City steering wheel, although without the leather wrapping:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-15.jpg

The traction control button and headlamp leveller are placed on the right. Dummy buttons don’t look good:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-16.jpg

The 8-inch floating touchscreen display gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-17.jpg

Passenger side of the dashboard gets this unique textured design:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-18.jpg

Very regular-looking Honda CVT transmission mode selector. Honda says that they’ve added padding on the center console for knee comfort, not sure about the usability though:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-19.jpg

IRVM gets manual dimming:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-20.jpg

All passengers get foldable grab handles:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-21.jpg

The interior lights are all halogen. No LEDs here:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-22.jpg

Honda says that since the width of the car has increased, the cabin width has also gone up by 38 mm. Not sure how much of it translates to actual usability, but 3 adults in the backseat would be tight. You get 3-point seatbelts for all passengers:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-23.jpg

Legroom is decent. The person in the driver’s seat was roughly my height 5’10” tall. There is decent space as the front seatback is scooped out:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-24.jpg

You still get fixed headrests for rear passengers. These are bigger than the previous Amaze but fixed nonetheless. The headroom is just about enough for someone as tall as me. 6-footers will find it tight:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-25.jpg

The center armrest just drops down on the seat and in the resting position, feels a bit low. It has 2 cupholders:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-26.jpg

Only the rear left passenger gets the seatback pocket:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-27.jpg

New addition to the Amaze is rear AC vents:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-28.jpg

Below, you also get a 12V power outlet:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-29.jpg

Boot space has dropped by 4 litres to 416 litres:
Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)-30.jpg

1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine makes 89 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm @ 4,800 Nm. The engine is E20 compliant. The claimed fuel efficiency for the MT is 18.65 km/l and that for the CVT is 19.46 km/l. We’ll be driving the new Honda Amaze next week and the review will be out soon after that:
