Though I agree on the crash test safety , do buyers of Honda really cross shop with a Maruti ? No offense to anyone, but I thought Maruti mainly attracts the buyers looking for reliable and fuel economic cars. Wheras Honda buyers are loyalists, and they don't cross shop much. However I am waiting for the launch of Amaze . If made on par with Dzire, it would be a nice car. I am currently confused between a used Polo or Ameo TDI , or a new Dzire or Amaze. When are they revealing the Amaze ?

Great. But is this the firm launch date or are they only going to soft launch the car to create a market hype, similar to what Skoda did with the Kylaq?

People will only sit up & notice Amaze if it significantly undercuts Dzire pricing! I don't think getting it crash tested at GNCAP or getting 5 stars will make any difference. Heck, Maruti isn't even advertising its 5 star crash safety rating in its print ads. I am personally a fan of the current Amaze with its smooth CVT transmission.

To understand your point better, you are calling Honda's 1.2L, FOUR cylinder i-VTECH engine "slow and very ordinary" as compared to which other engine in the same segment? Definitely not as compared to the 81 BHP producing, 3-cylinder, poorly refined (as compared to the outgoing 4-cylinder engine) thrumming, steering wheel shaking Z-Series engine that the new Dzire is bringing, right?

Kudos to Dzire for all that it brings to make it a very high VFM offering, but lets not discredit Honda for bashing sake.

Not completely true.
At some point of time, Honda decided to go downwards of City, instead of general Indian car enthusiasts wishes of going upwards from the City.
And thus we ended up with Jazz < WRV < Amaze < City instead of City < Civic < Accord < CRV

So, even today there is lot of interest among the group looking at Amaze/Dzire segment. If Honda brings in the Amaze with non prohibitive price, good looks and ok tech inside, it will still succeed.

But I agree, for others who were literally drooling over the other side of Honda cars spectrum were indeed left high and dry by the brand. It had so much potential!

Now that Dzire got that important milestone of 5 star safety, more potential Amaze buyers will at the least consider that car. I never even considered Maruti while looking for a car due to their poor safety record. Honda should definitely do something or the Dzire will steal a lot of buyers whether they are brand loyal or not.

1 Good observation. Fellow THBPians - why is Maruti not making noise on this achievement?

2 The CVT is segment best. Rubber band effect needs one to feather the pedal. If you love it and show tenderness the Amaze will love you back.

..the feeling of holding a "Honda" steering wheel in your hands is something that can be understood only when you hold it.

When the car glides like a butter on hot pan in the highways at 100 kmph with its 1.2 L engine mated to CVT at a relaxed low rpm of 1800 rpm, you don't even realize you are cruising at that speed. So silent, so smooth.
Bang on. Ergonomics, refinement, reliability and convenience are the key standouts for Honda. One really needs to physically experience it to believe it.

I get 21 kmpl on plains highways, cruising at a max 80 kmph. In NCR I get 15 kmpl. The Amaze suspension and ride quality are remarkable. Practically no fatigue after a 5/6 hour drive. This is a trademark of quality engineering .

Good point. There are no premium / aspirational products in higher segments. Honda Passport, Pilot could be sold as CBUs. The funnel of loyal City / Amaze / WRV owners is there for picking.

Can anyone throw light on the business case of selling CBU SUVs?

Also any news on Honda launching new models in the CSUV segment

2nd Gen Amaze is grounds up product from Honda related only to 4th Gen City (chassis wise).
Hi can you share documents / links confirming Amaze platform derived from City 4th gen. Thanks in advance.

I can't wrap my head around as to how Honda missed this in Amaze 2G and City 5G. At least they corrected this in Elevate. Does this really add to costs?

I thought it was very obvious! Not every car in Maruti Suzuki stable will qualify for an NCAP 5 star like Dzire did. So they can't really boast about it. Otherwise public will ask, "then what about xyz model?

As per the rumors everything above new Swift COULD BE safe but everything below that is not. So MS is going to upgrade each model below Swift, one by one. Might even discontinue some. Only after that, they will market it like Tatas do.

re: Next-gen Honda Amaze launched at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom)

People complaining about Amaze interiors being shared with City/Elevate need a reality check. What is wrong with that? Maruti has been part sharing for more than 10-15 years now. Steering wheel, switches for power windows, head units etc etc are all shared by entry level cars all through to higher models.

Dzire's power window switches, head unit and steering wheel are exactly the same seen on the Vitara which is easily 2 segments above (financially too). Nothing wrong with part sharing, in fact it's better that something that costs much less gets same/similar gear to the City/Elevate.

P.S. I am a Dzire owner who keeps wishing I had gone for the Amaze instead

My bad. By seeing the renders, thought it would be like the touch ones in TATAs with two toggle switches. Haven't bothered looking at the Elevate HVAC controls till your post. Thought it had the same City style ones.

Though stand by my choice of the City HVAC controls. That is just super compared to the one given in the Elevate.

You beat me to posting it .

Sub -4m sedans are getting revived finally. First the New Dzire and now this! Typical cool looking Honda design. Front end is quite Honda in looks, though it seems to be more rounded at the edges. Rear looks great, albeit very similar to the City.

Is it just me, or the nose seems very low in height. It looks a bit too low to me, atleast in the pictures . Let's see.

Sedans are finally gonna get some attention. Let's see if Honda does, too. It might be a game changer for them.

I had the same feeling when they decided to put the Honda City alloy wheel design on the Amaze. Next thing I did was change the Alloys on my city.

To be honest it seems too high to me. I have always known Hondas to have the leading edge of the bonnet sharply curving downwards. The Elevate of course is an exception, but in this image the Amaze also does not look as traditionally Honda as, say, the City.

But I think I am being misled by some kind of illusion as the night lights are making the mud flap look like a wheel and hence the car look higher.
