OT: Ah! nostalgic memories, the first car Sipani made was called badal, I think that was made out of fibreglass body. It was a 3-tired vehicle, I can still remember it in my memories.

My views are simple on this one. If the plastic is good and as strong as steel, serves the purpose so be it plastic. On another positive note just imagine you could just replace a body panel cheap if it breaks and they woun't rust anyways. What I like about TATA is the fact that they try to do things keeping Janta in mind.

Badal was made by Scooters India Ltd., not Sipani.
Yes, it was three-wheeled and had a FRP body.
Like the Dolphin/Kitten, Badal was also of British origin.
You can see the original British version in some episodes of Mr Bean.

Nope it was made by SAIL, not SIL. SAIL was Sunrise Auto Industries Ltd or something, the company that became Sipani Auto. The chap behind the original Sunrise was the same Sipani, AFAIK. So technically dadu is correct.

Adding to what Steeroid wrote, founded in 1974, it was known as Sunrise Auto until 1981, Sipani Motors from 1982-1999 and Maestro Motors from 1999 to 2001 before adopting its current name, Arjun motors and is based out of Mumbai currently.

Sipani Montana and Sipani Dolphin were made of FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) and not Fibreglass.
AFAIK even the Mahindra Armada was made of FRP and so it was rust proof.

O.T : Sipani had imported a car called Sipani Rover Montego which gave loads of features at that time and was priced upwards of 11 lacs. I saw only one in Bangalore in 1999.

Naaa!! FRP was used if you opted for hard-cabin in the MM540/other mahindra Jeeps (yes, they could use JEEP brand that time). The Armada was built of pure steel and I am telling by experience.

Having some plastic panels would not be that bad a idea (like doors) for a car that costs 1 lakh.
Would like to see autos completely replaced by these!
