Re: Scoop! Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe spotted testing in Chennai

Indian car market is the easiest to analyse. One look at a car and you can immediately tell if it'll be a flop or not. Even a child could do it.

Better luck next time, Citroen. Perhaps if you dumb down those big brains over there in the office, you can come up with something that works.

Re: Scoop! Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe spotted testing in Chennai

This time Citroen seems to have plugged quite a few gaps like,
  • AT transmission
  • Auto Climate Control
But this is a hotly contested segment, not like C3 where they didn’t have much competition back then. If they price Basalt at low to mid level variants of competition this has a good chance to sell in above average numbers. Saying this because competition offers way more kit and masses have more trust in old and established brands like Suzuki and Hyundai. Products like Creta have become a brand in itself.

Even Tata which is coming up with Currv, is going for all out launch with multiple ICE engines, transmissions and EVs with multiple battery capacities. And with all bells and whistles and most likely with an excellent safety as well as ride handling balance Tatas are known for!

Indians love VFM products and Citroen has to play its price card really well to make this a compelling option.

Model of the Citroen Basalt showing the production-spec fascia.

Quote:
The Basalt will come with the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as the C3 Aircross, producing 110hp and 205Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Re: Scoop! Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe spotted testing in Chennai

I think the car has now the basics covered and there are no major deal breakers. I'm sorry but i cannot in any manner consider those flap type handles as a showstopper.
I think they have also relocated the rear window switches as they are now showing a front armrest.

I'll be more than keen to have a test drive of the C3 Aircross once these updates make their way into the car.

Off topic : I somehow feel that recent posts in almost all threads are mostly about dissing new launches. Look at the Xtrail review, Citroën threads etc. Where is the positivity of having a true blue Japanese machine being launched or the enhanced driving experience that Citroën seems to be providing?

Unveil will happen on 2nd August. What you are seeing are teasers from Citroen.

Does anyone else feels similarity between Basalt and Amaze especially the rear. Hope Citroen gets better sales with this launch.

All these Coupe' SUVs just prove that the Pontiac Aztek was just ahead of its time.

Rarely do people here discuss the value offered at that cost—the ride quality of a car from a segment above, priced like a car from a segment below.

Are we merely a show-off forum, flaunting wealth and costly cars you have? Or are we all determined to ensure that new entrants to the Indian automobile market close down soon?

Does it even make sense to debate the type of door handle? When choosing a car, I didn’t even consider the door handle. Whatever type it is, how does it matter? A car’s main concerns should be driving experience, ride quality, suspension, engine , reliability, and service.

Looks are subjective. People decide whether they like the appearance or not; we don’t need reviews for that.

Revies should offer what one cannot perceive by looking.
Car reviews are slowly starting to sound like tech reviews.

It is only the opinions that are slowly leaning towards features, while team bhp remains an enthusiasts forum.

Well there's still the terrible safety rating that this car is suspected of, I've always adored Citroen and loved driving the C3 and the C5 but there's no way I would even consider this with that 1 star or whatever rating it got.

Has anyone read anywhere whether Citroen submitted their cars for testing at the BNCAP? At least the Basalt?

OT: The one thing we are missing from Citroen's crash test is that its body shell is rated stable. The car's basic structure is strong enough to perform well with added safety aids. Also, C3 Aircross has more passive aids like adjustable headrests and ISOFIX than base C3, improving the safety rating.

If Citroen standardizes the active safety aids and the passive safety aids they have promised(6 airbags and ESC) I'm confident that the basalt could get 4 stars easily in BNCAP which is lenient than GNCAP

Being a saloon, it will be relatively more rigid as there is an additional crossmember in the form of the rear window and scuttle.

Re: Scoop! Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe spotted testing in Chennai

Going to wait to see what the production spec they launch in India is like before passing judgement.

Mechanically it seems fine, though I guess being greedy, it would've been nice for the EV to launch concurrently to the ICE versions.

I can't believe I'm saying this but given our market's maddening and insatiable lust for sunroofs, if this doesn't have one, it's going to be hamstrung. I personally don't give a fig for a sunroof, it's entirely superfluous. I'd much rather have automatic climate control and a rear wiper in terms of 'niceties' that I really view as essential. And in that sense they seem to have a lot of the functional basics down pat.

Let's see the final positioning. I just hope the engine-gearbox combo for the auto is moderately engaging - all the hire car Citroens I've driven in the UK have been infuriatingly woolen to drive in terms of their engine-clutch-gearbox combination.
