Saw the latest test mule of the Basalt on the roads of Chennai and I was able to keep up with it for a brief time.

Not sure if this is the top model but it had the bigger touchscreen unit, steering mounted controls. But if that is true, it missed out on auto dimming IRVM and Automatic Climate control which I could spot.

Here are the pics of the manual AC and IRVM. The car doesn't look beefy or doesn't have a good road presence. Looked like a C3 with a bigger boot to me.

Can't see this gaining popularity. Coupe-like SUVs are not the gimmick Citroen needs right now. What they do need is features and price cuts.

Plus, we have seen many other Citroens testing, but highly unlikely they will come to the market.

My theory is that they are testing for parts, like the (correct me if I am wrong) Honda HR-V

I can't believe Citroën still is using those flimsy door handles. I recently checked out C3/eC3 for a friend, and the interior and equipment quality was disappointing.

• This will be 1st Coupe SUV in mass market and based on responses on the other thread, majority seems to be happy with the looks.
• This design came up in luxury segment first - so it kind of becomes aspirational for a common man.
• Citroen definitely needs to supplement looks with features at the right price.

Q : What other Citroens have been seen testing in India ? AFAIK it was always the C-Cube platform vehicles - C3, C3 Aircross, Basalt. Next phase will be electrification of these.

This part has intrigued me, not sure if its due to the camouflage, but since this looks smaller, can Citroen pull a rabbit out the hat and price this lower / parallel to C3 Aircross ? With the updated feature list and Coupe looks this will become a compelling option.

Seems like they are carrying the same interiors as C3 and C3 Air-Cross. Unless they are improving interiors, this car is going to fail. Yes, our forum is impressed by the concept/prototype-exteriors but even C3, eC3 and C3-aircross have good-looking (atleast decent) exteriors. They have taken the value-game to extreme without understanding the market. Tata did same mistake with Nano.

They should fix these if they want to be noticed.

1. Six Airbags is good (apparently June rollout) but What about Seat-belt pretensioners and GNCAP ratings?
   
2. Flip Key won't do. Keyless entry and push-button start should be offered.
   
3. Auto AC.
   
4. Rear Power window controls on the doors.
   
5. 90s Instrument cluster in C3 and eC3.
   
6. Pull-type exterior door handles.
   
7. LED Headlights and tail-lights.
   
8. Better finishes & contrasting colors on the dashboard, door-cards & seats instead of 80-90s style all-black single-tone theme. Atleast throw around some Piano Black or Mocha-Brown or Silver-Aluminum finishes here and there.

I have the same thoughts as you. I would like to add 2 more features in the list.

9. Day / Night IRVM (In all variants)

10. Remote Central Locking (Base variant)

I feel like there should be one more variant between Live and Feel. I call it the Pure variant. This variant should have features like: Steering mounted controls, audio system, Electrically Adjustable ORVMs, rear viper and washer, body colored ORVMs and an AMT option.

I really wonder if all this activity is not the fallout of a tough question the Board of Directors of Stellantis asked to the CEO - on why Citreon isn't active in the India - a market that is set to be one of the largest in the world. They may have asked the CEO to report back on progress in a few quarters.

The CEO may have then turned around and ordered the minions:

"Guys, just quickly lauch any 5 models in India, worry about safety, feature set, sales volumes, service and all that later."

"Make it snappy, I need to report back to the Board that we have done it and we are now in India with 5 models"

" Don't bother with too much market research, finding local needs, the 'consumer personal study' bullshit, and all that - It is a poor country, and owning a car, any car, is a dream for people over there"

"Just pick some basic models like the C3s, pick up one of our cheap and cheerful third world feature configurations, price the car real low and launch it fast. If it bombs, we can always drop prices, do some deep discounting or add a feature here and there"

"One word of advice from my extebsive stints in 3rd world countries, guys - don't let getting the safety part right, slow you down. It's just so damn hard to do a thorough job of safety engineering and testing in these kind of markets and it takes for ever. Despite its striking exterior, the spy shots reveal a rather basic interior layout. The overall design of the dashboard and seats is identical to the recently launched C3 Aircross model.

Changes on the new model include an all-black dashboard in place of the C3 Aircross’ black and white theme. The centre console between the driver and passenger seat is all new and now houses a central armrest with storage and rear AC vents. Despite its coupe-like roofline, the SUV offers a spacious second row with adequate knee room, under-thigh support and sufficient headroom for tall passengers. Additionally, the new SUV now features 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, which will improve the safety rating.

Excluding these changes, the Citroen Basalt gets a familiar cabin with a large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, digital instrument cluster, reverse parking camera and more. Expect Citroen to provide the SUV with 6-airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and more as standard at launch.

Citroën Basalt, C3 coupe SUV, tests Fiat's turbo engine in Brazil.

With a project developed in India, the Citroën Basalt will be adapted to the Brazilian market. Like the Aircross, it should be equipped with the 1.0 turbo flex GSE three-cylinder engine, with 12 valves and direct fuel injection, of Fiat origin. There are up to 130 hp of power and 20.4 kgfm of torque with ethanol, coupled to a CVT gearbox with seven simulated gears.
