The Force Gurkha receives several updates for the 2024 model year. These include a single-slat grille with ‘Gurkha’ lettering, circular LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and fog lamps with a cornering function. The SUV rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and is equipped with a snorkel, a roof rack with an integrated ladder, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel and a tow hook.

Inside, you will find a familiar-looking dashboard. However, it is now equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a digital instrument cluster. The SUV is also equipped with a tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and TPMS. It can carry up to 7 persons.

The Force Gurkha is powered by a 2.6-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 138 BHP and 320 Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4x4 system. The company claims that the improved power and torque enable it to cruise on expressways at triple-digit speeds.

The new Gurkha offers a ground clearance of 233 mm, which is said to be the highest in the segment. It can drive up a 35-degree incline and can wade through 700 mm deep water. The Gurkha also gets new independent suspension at the front, fully locking mechanical differentials on both the axles and Electronic shift-on-the-fly.

Wow! That's far less than I was expecting given the price of the last iteration. Thar has got its work cut out now.

Good pricing by Force motors, however I doubt this would make any dent to the Thar's sales given just how niche the Gurkha is.

I think with this, they just need to keep on working on the build quality and improve the ass network. Gurkha will hold on its own. But yes the automatic gear and rear disc brakes should be added as soon as possible.

While this will be undoubtedly better than the Scorpio N off-road, I can see the Scorpio N Z4 Diesel 4WD being a much better choice for 95% of scenarios. If I was spending that much, I would be looking for that, since it seems to be way more practical on-road and for road trips, and family friendly as well. Seems to be all-around a better choice than the Gurkha 5 door.

They are about the same price - talk about economy of scale.

It is also an interesting tale of how by adding two more doors, a vehicle gets out of a niche segment into mainstream wherein it gets compared against stronger market leaders.

Some things are better left alone perhaps.

How does the new Force Gurkha stack up against rivals like the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Jimny on the price graph.

They have far less ASC's in all, on a pan India basis comparable to the competition viz. Mahindra (Thar) and Maruti Suzuki (Jimny). Force has totally independent tractor ASC networks. Its minibus/MUV/SUV, ASC's are lesser than the competition and could have gone down in numbers as compared to its Matador years.
