Mixed feelings. From pics in Post #1, the Basalt looks more proportional. But the tail lights of the Currv look better. But like has been mentioned, the Tata vs Citroen will be a big factor, and here Tata will have the advantage, inspite of the Citroen's strengths.

In terms of external design alone, which do the BHPian's pick? |
I voted for the Citroen Basalt.
If we are just talking about external design, then the Citroen Basalt looks better. The Tata design, although good, is becoming very repetitive across all their cars. Following the same design language is one thing, but almost keeping the same design across different vehicles is not ideal, in my opinion.
Coming back to the Basalt, it's unique design will also make your car stand out in crowded places or busy parking lots. However, owning a Citroen car is a different case altogether. You might have to start by searching to see if there is any Citroen showroom in your city.
Voted: Basalt
More proportionate bodylines and right choice of alloys and wheel size
The Curvv though looks just OKish, and the wheels look too puny.
Wish Citroen does a deeper study of the Indian market and do necessary corrections atleast from here.

Based on these shots , I must say that I prefer the Tata ,it looks better to me. Its the same case of Tata cars looking better in real life rather than in rendered pictures

Let’s not forget the OG- The Mahindra XUV AERO -2016 if I remember correctly.

Isn't Mahindra also eyeing this space? I regularly see a similarly sized SUV-coule in camouflage along with the 5 door Thars in & around Chengalpet, TN. Could someone throw some light on it please. |
I think that is the EV in a Sports Coupe SUV form thats testing, BE05 and Rall.E which they had showcased.
Voted for Citroen Basalt.
6 airbags and a few essential features added at a slight premium over the existing Aircross, Basalt might be a surprise success.
I would also want soft touch dashboard and micro hybrid with start stop to improve city mileage at least over the aircross.
More than Basalt vs Curvv, I gave my vote based on Citroen vs TATA.
I have personally seen the Basalt closely inside ARAI Chakan where I had gone for Homologation purpose.
The design of Basalt looked really nice but still Citroen is in the struggle phase in India. On any day I would prefer TATA Curvv.
My vote goes for Tata. Citroen looks a bit less done and lacks that oomph. Curvv looks quite sophisticated in front and more robust from back.

This is exactly what I came to write. The rear profile in photos is an eyesore.
Selected the Curvv
For droolers: The original BMW X6 which was the first car to come out with a car in this shape.
Reviewers hated it. Those who could afford it Bought it. Totally impractical for 4-seater, unnecessary, uncensored Opulence.
This Shape allows for navigating Air Drag in a much better manner than a typical SUV, allowing for a sporty head-turning drive.
Surprised to see Basalt getting more votes. I have seen that vehicle multiple times with and without camouflage, in and around Chennai. It looked more like a sedan with a slopping roof rather than a SUV coupe. C3 Aircross on the other hand is a good looking and practical vehicle.
Nexon has a good road presence for a vehicle of its class and doesn’t look puny against Seltos/Creta. Also Tata has already made a good job with Tigor’s styling, so hoping Curvv will also look better in person.

This is what I am wondering why are people judging the looks and design of the cars that they are yet to see in the real world? You cannot get the sense of things by looking at the image on the screen be it anything people, places or objects.
For me, Basalt looks more like Verito but raised, at least in non camouflage photos. Curvvs studio photos look good, but need to see on road before voting.
It would be very difficult to vote objectively without seeing the cars first hand on the streets / in person or in the showrooms.
Going by just the digital images, the Curvv EV looks spectacular. Not a fan of the alloys of Curvv ICE. Basalt looks a but less "intimidating" on first look, but we never know.
