In these set of Mahindra Thar spy shots, you can see that there are select test mules that are fully covered under a black cloth. The Thar SUV that is covered under the cloth, seems to have a longer structure. It is likely that this is the 2023 Mahindra Thar 5 Door SUV, spied for the first time. Standing next to it in usual camo is the existing 3-door Thar.

Finally, a family-friendly Thar! Can't wait for them to unveil it.
Well, they beat Jimny again.

While most of us would be happy here, there will be a bunch of folks getting anxious - Yes, the potential owners of xuv 7oo who have got crazy wait times already.

One can only wonder how long the wait gets extended with Scorpio coming in 2022 and this in 2023 rl:

I'm more interested in why did they have the current Thar still in camouflage. Perhaps a new grill and the much awaited convertible hard top are finally here?

Looking at that number seems like an old test mule to me.

The grill is the same as was seen on older test mules.

They switched it before launch to probably play down the "Jeep" influence.

If the 5 door Thar is for real, I'm definitely buying it. Thar has always been my dream SUV but due to space constraints and family's apprehension towards comfort I couldn't lay my hands on it yet. But if this is coming, I'll buy it for sure. Just wondering what will be the wait time on it considering rising global chip shortage which has affected from smallest of electronic devices to big cars.

Hello bhpians.

Here's some latest dope on the 5 door Thar.

1. Since Mahindra will position the 5 door Thar as a more family oriented SUV, it will not get washable interiors like it's 3 door brother. What this means is that there won't be any plug to drain out the water after washing the floorboard.

2. The interiors of the 5 door Thar will have a more upmarket look than the 3 door version with the dashboard and/or doorpads having fabric inserts to enhance the look and feel of the interiors.

3. Unlike the 3 door Thar, the 5 door version most likely won't come with the option of either a soft top or a foldable roof. The 5 door Thar will most likely be available with a fixed roof option only.

4. To make the interiors more upmarket, Mahindra will use a bigger and more feature rich touchscreen in the 5 door Thar.

5. Mahindra will likely use the same Sony sound system as the XUV700 in the 5 door Thar but the speaker count is likely to be capped at 6.

6. The 5 door Thar will be positioned slightly below the upcoming Scorpio in Mahindra's product hierarchy and will get the power/torque and features distribution accordingly.

That's all for now. Stay tuned for more info.:thumbs up

Hi Ram87pune, thank you for the constant updates :thumbs up. Have you heard when the 5-door Thar might be launched? Is it going to be October 2022 similar to the 3- door Thar or is it being pushed to 2023? I guess it’s a bit hard to say since we have the third wave on the horizon.

Cheers!

Thanks for the scoop.clap:

Wish it is an optional thing. We want a 5 door Thar, not a boxier Scorpio.

Hope it is not pricing (meaning the Scorpio doesn't climb the price ladder) and is just engine specs and features (which anyday the Scorpio will trump the Thar)

Third wave or not, the next gen Scorpio itself is likely to be pushed into 2023 deliveries, looking at the XUV700 delivery timeline. The 3 door Thar might be unveiled in 2023 with delivery starting.... This is all in assumption that the Scorpio will be launched before the 5 door Thar.

The renders look quite true to the actual product.

Hope Mahindra slaps a rectangular headlamp fascia and names the 5-door Thar variant "Armada". :D

Wow, does that mean Scorpio will take up erstwhile Alturas positioning, or be priced parallel to XUV700? Trading robustness for tech features? Mahindra may have realized after the failure of the Alturas and success of the XUV700, that 30 lakh is tough sell for the Mahindra brand, without having proved themselves in the 20-25 lakh category.

The 3 door Thar starts at 13 lakh and tops out at 15.5 lakh. The 5 door will be priced 2 lakhs more- say 15- 18 lakh ex-showroom? So the Scorpio will be in the 18-25 lakh category, or more?:)

Neither good for off-roaders nor as a family car since families need the space of a 5 door.

That is exactly what the farming sector, and rural contractors etc need. Short wheel base, good ground clearance, and good low end torque.
The Older RWD Thar DI and in rare cases the 4X4 Thar DI were their daily use vehicles. These people do not drive off-road as a sport, but the mud track with a hump created by trucks is their daily route.
I need to go to new factory sites very often, and both my Terrano and Ecosport have never let me down, the Terrano has scraped the bottom just about 10 times in over a lakh km, and I have never been stuck for lack of 4X4.
When I see vehicles used by others who come there the RWD's with some weight fair better than the FWD's. Older RWD Thar, and RWD Fortuner and Endeavour are best, TUV doesn't have weight on the rear axle, and many people put sand bags in the rear.

Hello bhpians.

Here's latest round of info on the 5 door Thar.

1. The 5 door version of the Thar will most likely have a different rake for the front windscreen as compared to the 3 door variant for better aerodynamics and also since the 5 door version will have a longer wheelbase.

2. Mahindra is trying hard to improve the rear shoulder room in the 5 door Thar and thus its likely to be a far more comfortable place to be in for sitting 3 abreast.

3. Mahindra is testing FSD setup in the 5 door Thar and if it makes into production then we can expect a vastly superior riding SUV than the 3 door Thar.

4. According to my sources, if the looks of the 3 door Thar are anything to go by then the 5 door version will be even more stunning and macho. This version will have some significant design inputs from Pratap Bose.

5. Mahindra is testing both sunroof and moonroof for the 5 door Thar. They are not yet decided on which of the two options to go with.

6. Mahindra is also looking at launching a pickup version of the 5 door Thar. This will be an indirect successor to the erstwhile Scorpio Getaway.

That's all for now. Stay tuned for more info.:thumbs up
