Guys,

this morning a thought occurred to me.

For GM the sales of the Corsa have reduced to a trickle. i think it doesnt make sense to sell such a cramped car alongside the ikon accent , NHC.....

Why not scrap the Corsa and get the base OPTRA 1.6 *to corsa prices, say arnd 5 - 6 L ?

It would take the fight right to the NHC and GM mite have a potential segment winner here .

Same with the sail scrap it , get the matiz in asap which i feel will fare much better than the sail is doing rite now..

So guys *whats ur take ??

The matiz *the Optra 1.6 and the Optra 1.8 - all 3 potential winners..if only GM would listen.. *

what say ?

Would anyone then pay another 3 - 4 lacs for the additional 200 cc? Would be a write off

The moment a manufacturer slashes prices on a particular model, the Indian public is up in arms against this and runours are quick to spread about such things as the model being discontinued or its no good hence the price drop.

Consequently people would not buy the 1.6 and any snob value of the fully loaded 1.8 would disappear leaving GM with no buyers for either model.

take in example the kawasaki elimiantor, nosign of the new 180 pulsar enigne elim, and here the resale value has dropped like hell,
depending on my bargaining power i can get an good elim now for 45 to 50k!
i payed 1 lac plus for my bike, alteast there should be some exculsivity

Hmm.......
but i still feel this can be a good move. the optra has built a reputation as a solid, good looking, comfortable, spacious car.

and if u can give all this to Indian customers at lower prices GM just mite have people queing up their dealerships. *

i know its not easy but what the heck ...why nnot give it a shot GM ?

just a question of positioning and some proper advertising...maybe Mr. Blinger Himself cud help out ..wat say mr. rudra sen ?

cheers

True, but GM - like every other car maker - is here to make money. Almost 50% of the new car price tag that you pay goes toward taxes....at a 5 lac Optra, they would have to be able to make the car for 2.5 lacs. Possible?

Scrap the Sail and get the Matiz The Matiz is much cheaper (and smaller) than the Sail and definitely cant replace it. The Sail competes against the Palio and Getz. Matiz competes with Zen and Santro. Similar comparision with the Optra and Corsa.

Also reducing the Optra 1.6 prices to 5-6 lakhs is next to impossible and not a wise decision. It'll affect the 1.8 sales. If they reduce the prices of the 1.6, they should reduce the prices of the 1.8 proportionately. And then there would be no Chevy in the C Segment.

Precisely the reason ....to stop it and get the matiz in.

IMO the matiz will definitely do better than the sail ..
