Thank you for your response. In that case, one can be pretty sure that the feature is not there as the GLC also doesn't have it. Reliable sources including Team-BHP do not mention it in their list of functions available. Only a couple of Youtubers (with some following) have claimed it but I would not rely on them. If the function was available, the company would have certainly listed it in their presentation.

If the feature is infact not available, it is a shame. Volvos have it since 2017 and now even Mahindra, Tata and Hyundai have it but MB doesn't have except in the S-Class and GLS. No BMWs have it (except for 7 series and that too as an optional package). No Audis have it in any model. After spending a crore, one does not get functions available in a car costing 20 lacs. What a pity.

I think MB needs to chill out on those screens and touch buttons. In the name of going high-tech, it's simple cost cutting. Saves them from investing in high quality knobs and buttons, and eliminates a whole lot of child parts.

I think they're trying too hard to go the Audi way. Earlier they were chasing BMW, now they're chasing Audi. As another BHPian pointed out, it's becoming an all-plastic affair with some leather thrown into the mix. As far as I remember, Merc was always about comfort, wood, leather and some old world charm. Now they are transitioning into comfort and plastic and rattles and squeeks.

Even Apple has decided to bring back buttons now.....

I doubt that, (removal of passenger screen) because this model is a CKD, assembled in Pune. Also the EQS580 and the EQS SUV also have similar screens, and both of those models are also assembled here in Pune.

The EQS is still in the market entry phase and converting customers takes a bit of effort. The E class is well established, so the top end might continue to get the new features, the lower version usually won't.

It's great that they are pricing it around 80 lacs. I was thinking the way MB has been jumping the prices it will touch a crore. I guess it is because of the BMW 5 er which is very competitively priced. Also I feel they have winner as the design oozes class and opulence unlike the new 5 series. I think MB should offer the higher state of tune engines making the best even better.

6th-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB production begins in India

Mercedes-Benz has officially commenced local production of the sixth generation E-Class Long Wheelbase in India. The car is being manufactured at Mercedes’ Chakan plant near Pune.



The new E-Class LWB will be launched on October 9. It will be offered with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engines paired with a mild-hybrid system. Both engines will be offered with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The 6th-generation E-Class features a redesigned front fascia and reprofiled LED headlamps. The car gets quad-tail lights with unique star-shaped brake lights and flush-fitting door handles.



Inside, the new E-Class gets the “Superscreen” setup that includes a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre with an additional screen on the passenger side and a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster. The sedan also features power-reclining rear seats with an ottoman function, air suspension, and rear-wheel steering.

The E-Class LWB will compete with the BMW 5 Series LWB in the Indian market.

The V214 E-Class LWB has been launched at an introductory price of ₹78.5 Lakhs ex-showroom.

It is currently offered with a choice of either a 2.0L Inline-4 Petrol engine in E200 avatar, or a 2.0L Inline-4 Diesel engine in the E220d avatar, as previously announced. Additionally, the E450 4MATIC, with the 3.0L Inline-6 Petrol Engine will be available as well. With deliveries planned to start for November 2024.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the longest running badge since 1995. The tagline for this generation is "The all new E-Class LWB. Evolves with you."

The ex-showroom price and delivery schedules are as follows:

E200: 78.5 Lakhs and deliveries start in the next few days.
E220d: 81.5 Lakhs, Expressions of Interest now open, and deliveries start by Diwali.
E450 4MATIC: 92.5 Lakhs, Expressions of Interest now open, and deliveries by mid-November.

All prices are introductory.

Mercedes will also launch 2 more TEVs (Top-End Vehicles) by the end of this year, making it a total of 14 launches this year.

Interesting prices. Certainly beats the expectations. Whether it is due to the aggressive pricing of 530Li or Mercedes anticipating the slowdown in automobile sector (or a shift from seller's market to buyer's market), such low pricing is good news to the customer. Hopefully, it results in significantly high discounts for the respective lower models as well (C-class, 3-series) since there will be a thin gap (in terms of pricing) between the two segments resulting in cannibalization of sales (of the lower segment vehicle).

Sincerely hoping they bring in the 540d variant launched elsewhere some 2-3 months back. If at all they bring in the 540i variant (this has been on the wishlist of many for almost a decade now), I guess it will be in the standard wheelbase version and not the long wheelbase one (similar to the approach taken for the 3-series sedan). As a customer, god bless the competition.

Really happy to see Mercedes offer it’s bread & butter model for a reasonable price. Whether it was the 530Li effect or Mercedes really wanted to price it that way, customer is the winner here. When you compare it with the V213, the 350d guise was anyways costing 1cr on road and now with the new E450 4matic, Mercedes has really pulled out a rabbit out of the hat. Kudos to Mercedes India, they have a winner here.
