Mahindra sets a new record | Crosses 50,000 cars in September 2024

https://upstox.com/news/business-new...rticle-119692/

Mahindra has crossed the 50000 vehicles per month barrier!

Of course these are only dealer dispatches. But it shows the trend for the coming months. The second place is going to be a tight contest between Hyundai Tata and Mahindra. Interesting times ahead!

Tata motors sales for September 2024 has not been officially announced, but according to Zee Business Research, it is estimated to be around 49,800 for September 2024.

Re: Mahindra sets a new record | Crosses 50,000 cars in September 2024

Well-deserved success to Mahindra (and also Tata). Mahindra smartly realised the market's move to SUVs & Crossovers, and bet the house on them. No more hatchbacks or sedans for Mahindra.

But what's most important is the ability to churn out one blockbuster after another. The 3-door Thar, XUV700, Scorpio-N, XUV3XO and now the 5-door Thar. Just too darn impressive. This wasn't the case 10 years back. Mahindra launched the XUV500 which was such a runaway success, that it actually had a lottery system for bookings! But after the XUV500, there were dud launches like the TUV300, KUV100, Marazzo...

Right now, it appears Mahindra can do no wrong and they are in top form. But Mahindra shouldn't forget the debacles of the last decade.

Congrats you guys! Big party tonight, I am sure.

Re: Mahindra sets a new record | Crosses 50,000 cars in September 2024

Mahindra dispatches for Sept. beats Tata Motors figures as EV sales fall off the cliff,

Is this the rise of Mahindra and downfall of Tata Motors, as Mahindra aims for the Nr. 2 position?

Tata Motors Ltd. has dispatched fewer cars to dealerships ahead of the crucial festive season, underscoring the inventory build-up seen in the wider industry.

With Thar Roxx numbers to come in October's data, Tata will be behind Mahindra's numbers for a long time as EV market faces its own challenges.

Thar Roxx Vs Tata Curvv, will define the numbers in coming months or rather the gap that Tata will lag in numbers behind Mahindra in coming months.

Mahindra: 51,062

Tata : 41,313

Re: Mahindra sets a new record | Crosses 50,000 cars in September 2024

Hmmm.

Tata Motors passenger vehicles for September 2024 is 41063 (including EVs) according to the Financial Express. MD of Tata motors Passenger vehicles division has issued a statement.

“The PV industry in Q2 FY25 saw more than 5% decline in retails (Vahan registrations) compared to Q2 FY24 driven by slow consumer demand and seasonal factors. In contrast, industry offtake was significantly higher than registrations in anticipation of a strong start to the festive season, resulting in a continued buildup of channel stock. In addition, Electric Vehicle sales in personal segment was affected by the lapse of registration and road tax waivers in key states. Fleet EV sales continued to remain impacted due to lapse of FAME II and non-inclusion of the fleet segment in PM-eDRIVE scheme.”

— Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility

It looks like there will be deeeeeep end-of-year discounts in the coming months!

Re: Mahindra sets a new record | Crosses 50,000 cars in September 2024

Wakeup call for Tata, I am fed of recycling of NEXON platform for N number of times. Tata needs a new exciting nameplate soon, else they will remain No. 4 for very long time. Customer base who experienced hatchback golden age did upgrade to small SUVs in last few years, but there are plenty who are already owing small SUVs for many years or for that matter Creta/Seltos owners need something else to experience. So, here is where Mahindra at very opportune time has big brawny SUVs at very comparable prices. Rise and Growth of Mahindra has been robust and also sustainable in long term from the looks of their product strategy and plans.

Mahindra has the best shot at being Number 2 due to the deteriorating roadways in India. SUV's are better suited for Indian roads. I pity those sedan and low sprung car owners in our unscientific roads full of potholes.

For me, the single most investment that has paid off for them, is that in the R&D of Engines. Minor niggles and QA aspects apart, their engines of today are truly world class. Kudos to them !

It would be interesting to see the Hyundai numbers now. Mahindra is going to be the new number 2 and the way they are going, they will be there for coming years till they start challenging the forever leader, Maruti Suzuki. The only challenge Mahindra has is of capacity, which they have worked in last year to get the growth path they are on, as all their cars have phenomenal demand. 24% growth YoY and >15% ytd is just awesome when the industry is slowing. We are just starting the festive season and really happy with Mahindra's numbers .

Re: Mahindra sets a new record | Crosses 50,000 cars in September 2024

Generally the monthly sales data of Hyundai and Tata will be available to the public before noon on the 1st working day of the following month. Mahindra's sales data will be available around 1 PM.

Surprisingly, Mahindra's sales data (for September 2024) was available today by 11 AM.
Tata motors sales data was not available till 3 PM
Hyundai's sales data are not available till now (4:45 PM).

I think Mahindra has timed the dealer dispatches perfectly to dethrone Hyundai (and Tata) and emerge as the second largest Auto manufacturer in India, just in time to spoil Hyundai's party.

Hyundai was planning its IPO this month and now it will have to enter stock markets as India's third largest auto manufacturer (at least for this month) and not as the second.

Edit: Hyundai has just released its September 2024 sales data: Domestic sales 51,101 vehicles! 39 more than Mahindra!

I am sure they were busy the whole day cooking up this so as not to lose their 2nd spot in the IPO month!

History is never created in a single day. It requires hard work for years, then only history can be created. Kudos to Mahindra for achieving these kind of sales numbers, hats off. I am sure Mahindra will continue to do well for years to come.

Congratulations to team Mahindra, very well deserved. All the very best for years to come.

Tata's ICE sales also declined by 6% not just EVs. Tata's lineup always looked fickle even when setting records over the last 2-3 years. Over 90% of their sales are from <4m cars. On the other hand, over 70% of Mahindra's sales are from >4m and around 50% from Scorpio and XUV700.

Coming to EVs instead of building up on their first-mover advantage, they became greedy and priced their new EVs (Nexon facelift, Punch EV) at similar prices to XUV700, Scorpio N, and Creta—tiny EVs with tiny batteries at 15 to 20 lakhs. Reliability issues did not help either.

One of the biggest reasons for Mahindra's rise is their engines. While both Tata and Mahindra are known for their niggles, in engine department there is no comparison. Mahindra is miles ahead in terms of power figures, refinement,NVH levels, engineering of their cars. If you drive both Tata and Mahindra cars back to back you will clearly see the difference.

Re: Mahindra sets a new record | Crosses 50,000 cars in September 2024

Mahindra loses out to Hyundai by a whisker, now is the Nr. 3 manufacturer in India.

- Likely to overtake Hyundai in October as Thar Roxx numbers kicks in.
- Tata numbers in October not likely to make a difference to its current position.

1. Maruti Suzuki: 1,44,962

2. Hyundai: 51,101

3. Mahindra: 51,062

4. Tata Motors: 41,313

The growth story of the 2 Indian manufacturers:

Yes! this wafer thin margin of 39 vehicles definitely makes this statement more legit. Only for IPO filing they revised their monthly dispatches.
