re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

The reason I did not vote for Dzire and its a big one is the engine. The 4 Pot K series was a gem of a motor ( I currently have it in Fronx), and the new one is about 40% inferior than it. Dzire with that same 4 pot motor would have made it for me. Hence voted for Thar Roxx.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

Voted for Mahindra Thar ROXX. I also considered the new facelifted Maruti DZire and Citroen Basalt as possible toppers.

In the end, ROXX it was, for the sheer magnitude of interest generated, the product itself and what it represents in the Indian car scene.

It's built as a follow up of the existing 3 door Thar, rectifying certain drawbacks such as 3 doors to 5 door and in the process, the ROXX received refinements and improvements over the 3D Thar and now, it's an outstanding SUV cum a lifestyle vehicle and can even be the only car in the garage (which the 3D Thar couldn't manage to achieve).

Overall, a fantastic car. The Mahindra Thar ROXX..

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

I voted for the Maruti Suzuki DZire, because it is representative of some of the most popular cars in our market, and being a Maruti, it would've been panned for relatively poor safety had the engineers and product department not paid heed to the market trend going towards safer cars, and released the 5 Star Global NCAP rating just a little before launching the product for purchase. In this regard, I consider the DZire a game-changer.

The Thar Roxx is also yet another highly-desirable product from Mahindra, and I hope it'll succeed and help Mahindra among others become another one of the huge growth engines for our country. I had to pick the DZire though simply because it belongs to one of the more popular segments in our market, and it is a product of one of the most popular carmakers in our market too. Hoping to see this safety-first ethos of the DZire on other Maruti Suzuki products too.

On a side note, is there a reason why in spite of the COTY criteria mentioning that some CBU cars have been excluded from this poll, many CBU models such as the new 2024/25 Kia Carnival, the BYD eMax 7 and Seal, and the Nissan X-Trail et al. have been included in this? I'm not sure how well the Carnival and X-Trail fit the 'market commitment' criterion, but BYD does seem to be interested in our market.

No brainer, power and style on budget along with lots of practicality, Rox for me.

Voted for the Thar Roxx, it was very easy this year.

Waiting for the COTY 2025...

Already we have three biggies lining up, the two new Mahindras and the convertible from MG.

Looks like it will be similar to the Hollywood 1994. Forrest Gump, the shawshank redemption, the Lion king, Pulp fiction, Speed, Baby's day out, True lies, the Mask, Clear and present danger, Dumb and dumber ....

Maruti Dzire, a no brainer for me. A safe Maruti is all that a man needs. Anything above that is a want. If I was in the market for a car, the Dzire will be my top most contender. I did check out the car very briefly at a showroom and I was mighty impressed.

Voted for the Maruti Dzire.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

My pick - Maruti Dzire

For me, the toss-up was between the Roxx and the Dzire. What tipped the scales in favor of the Dzire is this- while the Roxx was expected and anticipated to 'rock it' for Mahindra, no one expected the Dzire to be as good as it actually is. Furthermore, although I'm not a fan of crash test ratings, the Dzire did the unthinkable by achieving a 5-star GNCAP rating. With fantastic looks, being a Maruti car, and a great overall package, it hides whatever little shortcomings the compact sedan may have and gets the job done, as far as I'm concerned.

Dzire is my pick. While it may not be enthusiast's choice, markets going to say otherwise and I honestly hope it will rejuvenate the sedan segment.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

I admire the Roxx for the package it is, and I admit that I have contemplated more than once to swap my XUV700 for an equivalent Roxx variant after it was launched. It is indeed an all-rounder and is one of THE perfect options for a family-oriented enthusiast. But, the one thing which brought sanity to my thought processes was that there are better options available in the same price band in which the Roxx plys in - most notably the XUV700 & the Scorpio-N. Bigger 7-seater cars having engines with higher outputs and, while the XUV700 is a much more premium offering, the Scorpio-N scores with its rugged BOF utility and better specs all around.

Full marks to Maruti-Suzuki for daring to go the different route for the 2024 DZire. Completely differentiated looks from the Swift which has always been the sister car before this, an unheard of 5-star GNCAP score for a Maruti-Suzuki for the very first time, a very "dzirable" looker with loads of utility value & unique features never seen in the 8-10 lakh segment, and a perfect family option in the most competitive segment in the Indian automotive scene today.

Not to mention that it has single-handedly made people sit up and take notice of it in the deluge of SUVs, crossovers and pseudo-SUVs from every other company which have flooded the market today. Don't dismiss the Z-series before driving it at least once - I guarantee most of you will be pleasantly surprised. Despite a few shortcomings (no car is perfect, IMO), the 2024 DZire makes the strongest case for itself in the list of contenders above. It's like a lone middleweight boxer surrounded by heavyweights on all sides, yet stands on it's own due to it's strengths and hence deserves the spotlight.

For me, it has brought back the old-school charm of driving a well-sorted sedan again. Hence, voted for the 2024 DZire.

I voted for Seal. Beautiful looking 530 bhp AWD sedan for 60 lakhs.

3XO is not a new product. It's a facelift of XUV3oo. Hence it can't be featured.

I knew it's going to the Roxx the second I saw it on the list. Not surprised to see the Dzire in second but the Curvv as a product has been underwhelming despite the hype.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

I voted for the Citroën Basalt, even though I know it might not secure even double-digit votes. It's a completely new car, venturing into uncharted territory—and a brilliant one at that.

The Thar ROXX will undoubtedly be the winner. However, I don’t find it to be a particularly sensible car for its segment. Instead, I would have preferred Mahindra to have enhanced the 3-door Thar with the features of the 5-door and positioned the Scorpio-N to handle what the ROXX aims to do.

That said, public sentiment is understandably different, and the ROXX has garnered plenty of praise and sales—rightfully so. Still, my vote goes to the Citroën.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

My vote goes to Maruti Suzuki Dzire.

I know for sure, the winner will be the "wrangler copy" and it is a good car, they made good improvements from the 3 door version. But again, does that make it the deserving car of the year?

On the other hand, there is Dzire - something that the masses would vouch for, but us, the "enlightened ones" would cancel for safety - has done the impossible
The only thing where the market leader lacked was safety and they hit the nail on the head. Created a car which was already frugal, reliable, low maintenance and now is super safe too!

To me that is the news of the year in automotive industry and so the car of the year!

Voted for Tata Curvv, solely because of its monotony breaking looks and boldness. You may love or hate it, but you can't ignore it

My heart made me vote for BYD Seal. One of the most enjoyable cars I have driven. However, I could see Thar ROXX winning this.
