re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

Voted for the Dzire.

It has everything that a mass market buyer needs on a budget. Top class safety, excellent reliability, great looks and adequate performance backed by MSIL's industry leading after sales network. As a bonus, stupendous fuel efficiency too. What more can one ask for in a car that starts from under 7 lakhs?

We had the below thread discussing on safety v/s reliability, and why a buyer has to reluctantly prioritise one over the other when shopping for a mass market car.
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...rives-you.html (Safety vs Reliability: What drives you?)

Thanks to MSIL for finally waking up; now that compromise between safety and reliability is no longer needed.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

It's particularly reassuring to see a strong, collective emphasis on security across the brands. While many cars represent incremental improvements over their predecessors, one question stood out to me: Who truly changed the game? The answer is —the BYD Seal. This stunning luxury sedan redefines value, delivering unmatched competence and sophistication at just 50% of the price of a comparable German offering—voted Seal.

I voted for Dzire, I myself had bashed Maruti for taking customers for a ride by producing below par products and they were taking safety very lightly. Credit where it’s due, full marks for them on their first 5* rated car and looks as well they have sorted it out big time. Keep continuing Maruti

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

Voted for Mahindra Thar Roxx, although it was a touch call for me to choose between Dzire and Thar Roxx. Never imagined Dzire could look premium front the outside and 5 star rating is a big statement from Maruti. This is going to be a true infection point for Maruti with their ever declining market share in the past 1-2 years.
Coming back to the Thar Roxx, definitely it has addressed the space issue and it can now be a family car, an adventure car, a show-off car with better comfort, safety, tech and feature rich as well. The only downside for me is it’s Balero-ish look. Otherwise, it checks all boxes. With more urban families having multiple cars in their garage in the recent years, Thar Roxx will be amongst the top of the pecking order as their secondary car, if not as the primary workhorse.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

In my heart vs head, close fight between the Roxx and the Maruti's new wildcard. But for what it means to the Indian auto Industry, this time I'll vote with my head and not heart. The Roxx is fun and definitely can be the only car in your garage. It's good fun and a big boy toy.

But for most of India, the first four wheeler is an aspiration and a statement of arrival. And it's mostly a Maruti. So when our favourite 'tin can' bashing carmaker pulls out a perfect 5*, I think they deserve our attention. And a responsible forum's COTY should reflect that.

Voted for Maruti Dzire, responsibly.

Safety is now, for everyone!.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

Debated between Dzire, Windsor and Seal. Others are either just business as usual or not the best products.

The BYD Seal reduced the price tag of that level of performance and challenged the big players. Though, it might be likely that it is due to state backing and not all due to innovation.

The MG Windsor has brought the EVs to the masses in a way Tata and Mahindra haven't before and made it truly competing with ICE on price and practicality.

However, I think the DZire is the one that signifies the most impact to our market. The 5 star rating, the design and the focus on it being a great city car signifies that Maruti Suzuki is not resting on it's position anymore and is hungry again. If they keep this up, with the upcoming EVs and series hybrids, it's going to be a tough time again for other manufacturers.

In a lighter vein, I would’ve liked to hack the EVM and vote for the Ioniq 5 N, Renault 5 and twice over for the rumoured new Suzuki Cappucino. Sadly none of these cars are likely to come here.

But I wouldn’t mind having a hybrid Thar 5-door, renamed Armada and blessed with a no soft touch material 4x4 variant, or a Swift 1.0 turbo, or a Windsor 50 kWh.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

Voted for the Thar Roxx.

It’s the kind of car you’d look for reasons to buy. 4 door practicality means it could also be the only car for many families - doesn’t need to be only part of 2 car garages.

Dzire was high on my list partly for finally cracking its safety ratings in a very popular mass market product. But it’s really something they should have addressed much sooner I feel. But still, it was definitely a strong contender but it’s hard not to vote for such an evocative product like the Roxx.

The MG Windsor is very interesting too and with the new Mahindra EVs launching as well now, I think the EV space in the 15 - 30 lakh space is going to be interesting over the next couple of years.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

For me it was the Thar Roxx vs BYD Seal. An electric performance sedan that only the i5 M60 could match. But, in the end, the Roxx was my choice. It finally became the single garage Lifestyle vehicle that India wanted (and me, if I were to buy a car).
Felt the XUV3XO could have been on the list as well. Lovely turbo petrol, and surprisingly felt premium for it's price range. If not the Thar, then certainly this if I settle for a smaller car.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

Voted for the Dzire.

I felt the Dzire to be the most relevant car. It has all the positives of a Maruti - reliability, a widespread service network, and fuel efficiency. These factors alone would have made Dzire a good product, but they went a step ahead and differentiated it from the Swift. They designed it very well, and the pricing is also good. It scored a 5-star GNCAP rating. This is the first time a Maruti is getting a 5-star. It would give confidence to buyers of other Maruti Suzuki cars as well, at least the ones costing more than the Dzire. Though the performance is not that exciting, the fact is that our market is not that concerned about performance, which is evident from the sales of many cars with weak engines.

I don't see myself getting a Dzire. I would any day go for a turbo petrol car since I value performance. Still, my vote goes to Dzire because the market always wanted an all-rounder car like this.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

Its great to see the variety on offer.
  • Swift & Dzire loose out due to the engine (cant believe the Swift has a 3 cylinder).
  • Citroen needs more image building to compete.
  • Tata looks great especially the Curvv but lot of issues from users.
  • I seriously wish MG tunes up their vehicles better but cannot think of owning a vehicle without physical buttons.
  • BYD vehicles are awesome and worth a look.
  • Force is too cumbersome for the city.
The obvious choice would be the Thar and is my choice for the COTY.

Voted for the MG Windsor.

I didn't have to think twice. It has changed the dynamics of the EV market by forcing the competition into rethinking pricing of an EV plus it has good road presence.

Voted for the Tata Curvv. It is is definitely the first of its kind, and its looks too are quite clean, sharp and attention grabbing. Mahindra too is now following a design similar to the Curvv in their new range of electric SUV's IMHO. It is definitely causing (read going to cause) changes in all three brackets based on fuel (Petrol, Diesel, Electric).

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

It's the Dzire for me this year. As an ex Dzire owner( 1st gen DDIS) it is heartening to see how much the platform has come along in terms of standard safety features. Bringing a fast diesel Dzire VDI to a screeching halt was an experiment in probability, the car could veer either side while stopping. The reed thin 165 section tyres abetted the adventure. The present car has 6 airbags and ESP as standard, not to mention the icing on the cake with 5 stars GNCAP. And it is a good, decent performer with high efficiency, 3 vs 4 cylinder being a very minor if not irrelevant consideration.
