re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

Thank you GTO and Team-BHP team for conducting this annually, freely and fairly, for and by auto enthusiasts on the forum.
Some great contenders this year. EVs like MG Windsor and Punch EV make for great city cars. BYD Seal is an outstanding performance car for it's price (have test driven all 3). However their relevance in the bigger picture (Think EV sales to Total sales, range anxiety on out-station trips) is currently limited ( though poised to grow fast).
That leaves two top contenders for me - MS Dzire and Thar ROXX .
From relevance standpoint, MS Dzire stands out - practical, reliable and now safe option for the masses. Also it sends out a big message to the market - when the market leader starts to make safer cars, others have to follow or be simply left behind. It finally becomes an Industry standard! However for us auto enthusiasts, it doesn't have the desirability quotient nor driving pleasure. At the least, MS should have given a CVT gearbox instead of AMT.
For the sheer desirability and driving pleasure, voted for Thar ROXX
(Side note - If one were shopping for a 2 car garage, one wouldn't go wrong with Thar ROXX as the weekend/outstation car and Punch EV/Windsor EV/MS Dzire/Honda Amaze as the city/beater car.)

I Vote to Mahindra Thar Roxx.
Excellent Car. Well All Rounded Package which covers all aspects that are needed to be in a Car in Today's era. The Thar Roxx is an aspirational car.
The Only Con for me in this car is its name "Roxx". I suggest something like "ARMADA" would be better.

I am not able to cast my vote for some reason. If I could, I would have gone for the Gurkha in the lot, which still is a machine that thrills with less dependancy on electronics.

I would have expected more votes for the Citroen Basalt, one, it really opened an entirely new category in the Indian market and second for Citroen to offer such a value for money, and fundamentally a high quality product minus the bells and whistles in such a competitive segment.

MG Windsor is the winner for me. I'm surprised that the Thar Roxx is getting as many votes as it has given there are many vehicles in the same class that offer similar features and value at that price point.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

Voted for Citroen Basalt purely for the fact that it's a different product and has its own USP. While the sales charts aren't exactly on fire, must applaud the fact that they dared to venture into a new segment for the middle-class while this body type was only seen in the luxury segment. Also, while the car misses out on some features I still believe that if the basics are sorted (which they are), other missing features will be added overtime to make it a well-rounded package. Of course the only other major concern being the future of Citroen in India.

Swift Dzire came a close second for the amazing transformation, both in terms of design and safety.

Thar Roxx will eventually be a winner here but I personally won't buy a Thar as I currently own an Endeavour and till Thar reaches Endeavour levels of ride quality, I won't consider it a great product. Of course there are some other compromises as well plus the gremlins that come with the Mahindra products as indicated by our esteemed TBHP members. Nevertheless great effort by Mahindra.

I personally don't believe EVs are the future at least in India and again don't consider EVs to be in the race but BYD's cars are commendable.

Thank you. I cannot vote because I am a newbie. But my vote is for Thar Roxx. The new Thar has amazing presence on the road. It looks much more relaxed (as opposed to constricted earlier version) and gives an impression of solidity which is a bit rare among existing cars. I think this will hold its stead for at least 5-6 years. Indian roads needed this.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx

Team BHP. Thanks for the thread. This definitely is the true sample and Speaks truly of the every automobile enthusiast.

Here are the 3 scenarios:

1. Am a first time car buyer in my 20's and i Just need a Fun Car:
My Vote - Swift or 3XO (sadly missing in the List)

2. Am in my 30's with 1 or 2 kids and a pet:
My Vote - Roxx

3. Am looking for a EV to compliment my Primary Ride:
My Vote - Windsor

But leaving the scenarios, Roxx wins hands down as a well rounded package that appeals and excites both the Family and the Enthusiast in you. Kudos to Mahindra.

Citroen Basalt.

A beautiful and trustworthy Coupe design which looks more elegant and cohesive compared to Curvv. Though the feeling of premium is missing but I would still consider it if I want to upgrade from my Honda Amaze. The under-thigh support at backseat in Basalt is exemplary and should become industry standard.

Can't vote because I am a newbie but would definitely choose the Thar Roxx. Initially didn't like the rear quarter panel design but it slowly grew on me. Front and back is good enough. Fantastic engineering and engines topped off with luxury interiors is all a person needs. Mahindra has been killing it lately with every launch being a superhit. 2nd choice would be the Dzire which is also a nice car but I loved the K series engine.

Yet to get the option to vote as a newbie, if given my vote would definitely be to the Dzire, as it ticks all of the following

1.Safer (Kudos to Maruti on this factor)
2.Affordable
3.Looker

My vote goes to the Thar Roxx. I love cars that have character and the Roxx has loads of it. Both in the way it looks and the way it drives. The Gurkha has character too but has quite a few compromises.
The Dzire is the more sensible choice and EVs are becoming stronger contenders year by year. But my choice is still the dinosaur powered Roxx.

Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx-thighlander.jpg

Oh what a tough choice to make amidst a sea of excellent cars! It is especially heartening to see a rise in many electric cars too. The MG Windsor and BYD e7 / Seal are wonderful showcases of the variety that we now see in EVs.

I guess the Nissan XTrail and Gurkha 5D will be catering to a niche set of customers. I don't really consider the Taisor a "new car".

One question - why is the new Honda Amaze missing in this list?

As for me, the choice has always been this macho dude :

Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2024 | EDIT: It's the Thar Roxx-troxxx.jpg

It is the perfect size as far as I am concerned, since I do not want bigger 7-seaters. An AX5L in Mocha brown interiors and 4x4, that too in diesel, will make me the happiest bhpian! And then I can customize it to my heart's content. It just arrests my gaze every time I see one rolling by.

Thar ROXX will be a clear winner, and I am sure it deserves to be. I thought multiple times before going ahead but went ahead with Curvv.

For me Thar ROXX is an organic evolution from Mahindra, but Curvv is a bit unconventional and would need to be rewarded for breaking the odds. Availability of Electric and ICE makes it an unique proposition.

Thar ROXX !!!

If I were to buy a car from this list, it would be the 5-door beast of a car. Kudos to Mahindra for bringing one blockbuster after the other. M&M behaving like Amitabh Bachchan from late 70's or SRK from 90's. Every time they take the stage, they bring out something exciting.

Even the facelift of 300 in the new 3X0 avatar has been a coming of age story in the sub 4m category!
