I have to agree the Safari is outmoded and outdated. I never like the way it looked from day 1. Its all ways been an average looker, the past few months i have been trying to create a liking for its looks simply because i was planing to go for a 4wd vehicle but today i give up.

The only other option is the Scorpio but i was talking with my Tire dealer(Alloy Rim shop) a year back and he asked me what Car was i planing to buy, i told him i will be going for the Scorpio. He looked disappointed with my choice, he said Scorpio lags class and not really a classy vehicle. (I dont know what opinion he had of me lol.)

Does anyone else think the Scorpio doesn't speak highly on class as much as a Safari?! Both seem to be on the same price range but some how Safari owners are considered more classy. Why is it?

Here is my list:

1. Chevrolet Tavera
2. Tata Sumo
3. All M&M utility vehicles except Scorpio
3. Pajero 2.8 (and for an obscene price?!)
4. Wagon R
5. Esteem
6. Skoda Octavia
7. M&M Logan exterior
8. Fiat Palio Stile interior
9. Versa
10. Omni

I still prefer the Lancer to a Cedia, especially the rear. It might not be a timeless design but has definitely aged well.

While I agree that some of the Maruti's may be outdated, it still serves the purpose for which it was brought in.
> 800 could give TATA a run for its money if prices are reduced to compete with the higher versions of the 1L car.
> Alto is still the best seller in India- by a huge margin. Thats because it does many things right.

My list-
1. Maruti Suzuki WagonR- ya, i have one. Good car, but its high time to bring in the Splash as competition has moved on, specially spark.
2. Hyundai Santro- Still sells really well, but i fell its showing its age. Where is Pa?
3. Esteem- But its known replacement is due soon.
4. FIAT Palio- Stile or no style, get rid of it and bring in the Grande Punto. Sales haven't picked up with TATA partnership also.
5. Versa- What is Maruti thinking? People mover without diesel option?
6. Mahindra bolero
7. TATA sumo- replacement due soon.
8. Hyundai Elantra.
9. Mercedes C class- 3 series will kill it otherwise.
10. HM Lancer- Looks good still, but sales wont pick up unless they do something big.

Bascially the market dictates whether a car is obsolete or not. As long as people continue to buy a model, manufacturers will continue to produce them. However, in some cases, manufacturers themselves want to stop production of a model (eg. Zen, Accent etc.) when they want consumers to buy an upgraded model (spending more).

If we compared models available in Indian market, we can see that a vast majority of models are already considered outdated in international market!

A better poll would be which cars don't look outdated. From a different standpoint I think Tata have become complacent about the Indica like about 2 years ago. They definitely need to revamp that car to leverage the success they have had with it.

800

I agree on the 800, I beg to differ on the 5 Speed 800.
The 5 speed 800 and the Alto vx1.1, make so much more sense now, esp. in B'lore with all the traffic jams. The balance of fuel economy and power in these cars are just right for today. Offcourse these is this lack of basic security.

Logan. Looks like some upgrade to a Dolphin or Montana. The rear of the Stile is pretty fugly and dated too, while the front is quite stunning.

I think the Safari is quite good looking. The initial models were stunning, and the newer Dicor ones aren't too bad either.

I think Fiat Siena (Yuck! may I add, lookwise), NHC and Indigo are good examples of that. I personally don't like the looks of these cars.

For me the 5 cars the need a serious facelift are:-

1. Safari.
2. Lancer (My Advice launch an EvoIX)
3. Esteem
4. Ikon
5. Scorpio..

The contessa should be brought back as that is the soul of Indian muscle car..

Don't think tastes change so much. They are made to change with marketing & also the fact newer stuff is always more attractive.
Seeing the same old thing is no longer interesting.
As an example show the Indica to someone who has never seen it
before, he finds it attractive, but very few people who see 100's
everyday find it attractive.

In other words, the cars which are outdated are mostly, the ones
you have seen a lot.

Not always true. have a a look at the Mahindra-Renault Logan. It looks dated form day one (never mind it has a fantastic engine) much before we saw many of them on the road. Again, its in the eye of the beholder! My list of five cars:
1. Palio (interiors)
2. Wagon R
3. Renault Logan
4. Indica
5. Corolla
