The Scorpio is Mahindra’s best-selling model of 2024

The Mahindra Scorpio outsold all other models in the brand’s line-up in 2024, as the cumulative annual sales crossed 5 lakh units for the first time.

Mahindra’s annual sales for 2024 were 5,28,460 units - a 22% increase over the previous year. The wholesale numbers for the first 11 months of the year put the Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic on the top with 1,54,169 units, accounting for 32% of the total dispatches.

The Bolero was the second best-selling model with 93,850 units sold, followed by the XUV700 clocking 83,390 unit sales. Mahindra sold 78,826 units of the XUV300 / XUV 3XO, while the Thar and Thar Roxx were in fifth place with combined sales of 69,354 units.

In the EV segment, Mahindra sold 7,188 units of the XUV400 during the first 11 months of 2024.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, Mahindra sold 4,02,360 units and looks poised to achieve the 5 lakh sales milestone by the end of FY2025.

Re: The Scorpio is Mahindra’s best-selling model of 2024

Makes perfect sense. The Scorpio strikes the right balance between daily usability and ruggedness on our roads accompanied by superb road presence, unlike the XUV which seems to give off a "luxury" vibe. Plus the incredible brand pull the name has means it is at ease with a rich farmer, politician or a middle class city family. incredible how M&M have capitalized on the brand .

Re: The Scorpio is Mahindra’s best-selling model of 2024

Mahindra tend to club Scorpio Classic and ScorpioN sales and then present Scorpio as "the best selling SUV brand". In reality these are very different vehicles launched 20+ years apart. By the same token, Toyota could have combined their Crysta and Hycross sales and claimed Innova as the best selling MPV brand. Royal Enfield could have combined all Bullet sub-brands and reported a single figure.

This is misleading and I would not be surprised that if we broke up Scorpio Classic and ScorpioN sales, each in itself is not the highest selling SUV brand in the M&M stable - XUV700 could be ahead of both!

Not sure about Royal Enfield, but Toyota does club the Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross numbers together.

That's an incredible profit margin right there. Scorpio classic is just money minting machine. Being 20+ years old, every sale is just profit pro max.

As far as i know, 70% to 75% of this total sales comes from ScorpioN, rest is classic. Still a great achievement for ScorpioN knowing its retails price.

Re: The Scorpio is Mahindra’s best-selling model of 2024

M&M should have placed Scorpio-N as its flagship SUV instead of XUV700. Scorpio name is a brand in itself like Creta for Hyundai. For some strange reason, M&M didn't provide ADAS, 360 Camera, Panoramic Sunroof and other features in the Scorpio-N, may be to keep the price lower than its Flagship XUV700.

I agree if we could get a breakup of Scorpio classic & ScorpioN sales then I too believe that XUV700 could be ahead of both.

Re: The Scorpio is Mahindra’s best-selling model of 2024

I believe Scorpio and ScorpioN sell in equal numbers. While I see lot of ScorpioN in cities, Scorpio is quite popular in remote and rural areas. In Bangalore I hardly see any new Scorpio, however during my trip to North East, saw a plenty of new Scorpio's. Some of sales profit of Scropio should go to makers of Singham movie, old gen still has a big fan base.

Re: The Scorpio is Mahindra’s best-selling model of 2024

Honestly the Scorpio has everything for every buyer.

Want a rugged and refined SUV but live in NCR? Get the Petrol AT
Want a rugged but plush, frugal and refined SUV? Get the Diesel AT
Want a rugged, frugal, and reliable SUV? Get the Diesel MT in lower variants
Want to go offroad? Get the 4x4
Want a car purely for road presence and raw mechanical reliability? Get the Classic

Ignoring the Classic, every variant of the ScorpioN is quick, fun, sturdy, safe, comfortable, and overall a great purchase for family buyers and enthusiasts as well.

The likes of Harrier, Safari, Hector don't even stand a chance if we compare the versatility and sensibility of this. The XUV is a close second best in segment but design and mechanicals wise that is a little too urban than this and lacks the ruggedness.

Hopefully Tata takes some lesson from this that you do not have to ruin a perfectly good brand to get more sales!

Assuming the capacity of Classic was not enhanced (basis the investor/media releases), Classic would be 1/3 of the total sales of the Scorpio Brand. Healdy number for a 20 year plate. It is important to note that the Classic is based on the 2014 Scorpio which in itself was a major upgrade. The 20 year vehicle was extinct in 2007 when the mighty muscular CRDe was launched.

Scorpio inherently has followed a 7-8 year product cycle with major upgrades that gave it almost a new identity

Re: The Scorpio is Mahindra’s best-selling model of 2024

The old Scorpio which is now named as "Classic" finds the government departments as its customer too apart from its sales in the rural markets. A wise decision by M&M to retain the model unlike what Toyota did while introducing the Innova by killing its best selling Qualis. The Qualis could have continued for at least another 5 plus years.

Re: The Scorpio is Mahindra’s best-selling model of 2024

Last year, I had the opportunity to travel in and drive Bhpian DragonHawk's Scorpio-N a bit. I covered over 7,000 km in the SUV, mostly as a co-passenger, and I can safely say that this is probably the best-engineered Mahindra vehicle I have ever experienced. This included a trip to Spiti Valley and another short trip. Although I have not experienced all of Mahindra's offerings firsthand, from what I have read, heard, and experienced, the Scorpio-N is by far the best car in the portfolio. The engine refinement is amazing, and the overall build quality is excellent. No wonder it is one of the best-selling SUVs in the market.

Re: The Scorpio is Mahindra’s best-selling model of 2024

I am a proud owner of a black m hawk top end VLX Scorpio for a dozen years as a daily drive vehicle. I enjoyed the tank like build of the vehicle and its bullet proof m hawk engine. In those days the 110 bhp was a big number.

In a tweet, Anand Mahindra called the Scorpio a "trustworthy warhorse" that has been "ready to ride into battle with us". He said that if the Scorpio had failed, the board would have fired him, and that he owed his career to the SUV.

My Scorpio bought in 2009 for on road price of 10.5 lakhs in Chennai. In those days the car was delivered at home in a ceremony of hand over by India Garage manager.

I'm gonna guess the Safari is the perfectly good brand that they ruined? After seeing the OG Safari Vs the new one, I kinda have to agree
