Spiritual successor to T-BHP'S favorite cars

I was trying to figure this out the other day.

Two of T-BHP's favourite cars are no more. yes i am talking of the OHC/OHC Vtec and the Baleno.

both have been replaced by cars that are quite competent in their own right and have been clocking up good numbers for their manufacturers-BUT, these cars lack the soul/character/driving pleasure of the originals.

hence i got thinking, which car among the presnt day sedans, in the same price band as the OHC and the baleno, can claim to be aspiritual successor of these brilliant cars.

please note, I am talking from purely performance/driving pleasure/emotive perspective and am NOT figuring in things like FE/VFM/A.S.S.

the only car that coes to mind is the fiesta 1.6

what are your views?

P.S. pretty sad situation if you ask me......

The Baleno boys I am sure will move towards the Cedia - they are underdog / value for money lovers and the Cedia is the current favourite for that tag.

The Cedia Way

I agree. Though Cedia is a D-segment car, its inability to sell has forced Mitsubishi to price at C+ segment. That makes it a good deal. There are many on this forum who have gone Cedia way.

Great topic Himanshu!! There is the Skoda RS but is surely not in the 6 - 9 lakh price range like the OHC, Baleno and Lancer. From the currently available options, I would pick the Fiesta 1.6 and the Cedia. But only because of lack of other enthusiastic options.

Related Topic and must-read : Where have the driver-oriented cars gone? (Where are the driver-oriented cars? The Honda Citys, Lancers, Balenos etc.?)

I think the Accord V6 deserves to be here. Yes i know its an automatic but what-the-heck its a stonker of an engine ! Even tho its not in the same price band i think the car is a bit underrated on this forum !

I think Cedia would be a worthy successor to the Baleno/OHC with its awesome looks, powerful engine, good handling and above all the ability to tune the car to blow off the competition. Moreover, with this pricing, Cedia is a steal.

I think the Palio 1.6 is a definite contender to this title. As far as invoking passion amongst its owners, its definitely high up on the list.

Also, like its predecessors, i.e the OHC & the Baleno, it is quite affordable, making it all the more attainable.

It also has the underdog tag covered!! :-)

I'd agree with Swale; for 5 lakhs the Palio 1.6 offers most bang for the buck.

Himanshu is only taking SEDANs in to account. I guess no hatches.

hmmmm, the car comes to my mind as far as hatches go is the Swift Diesel, enormous torque quite FTD.

The sedan which can replace the OHC/Baleno is surely the Fiesta/Cedia, the 1.6 Fiesta is a stonker and quite well priced too.
