Team-BHP - It's not fair to these cars

I have always diffrentiated segments as under:

A segment : Maruti 800 & Omni
B segment : Maruti Zen, Wagon R, Alto, Hyundai Santro , Daewoo Matiz etc.
B+ Segment: Tata Indica, Opel Corsa Sail , Fiat Palio.
C Segment: Tata Indigo, Ford Ikon, Ford Fusion, Hyundai Accent, Getz , Opel Corsa, Maruti Baleno.

Uptil now, Overdrive compared the Palio and sail with the Zen's and Wagon R's and said the car's aren't as fuel efficient and hence not good enough. In fact, I have always found Overdrive's reports on Palio adverse. God knows why they are anti-fiat - Is is cuz their own indica platform is based on the FIat's A178 platform? BTW, take a look at overdrive's mileage figures v/s Autocar's. OD always gets better figures for all cars EXCEPT Palio/Petra!
Anywaz, in the latest issue they suddenly compared the palio and corsa sail to the Getz and Fusion claiming them as big hatchbacks! It isn't fair to either the sail or the palio isn't it? When did the palio and sail grow up??
Oh yes, they also wrote that the palio's looks are ageing compared to the Getz! *

maybe ebcause ACI is always pro -Fiat.hormarzd is always pro fiat.so Adil has to be anti ACI.maybe thast y.:p

I recently the Auto show on cnbc.
Renuka was comaring the Fusion and the Getz
I find both the cars to be in different segment.
Also the price difference is somewhere 2 laks.
So it aint fair comparing the 2 cars.

Compact
Compact cars are called just that due to their relatively small dimensions. These cars are ideal for commuting within city limits, and have clear advantages in negotiating tight parking spots and city traffic. It can also be said that that due to small engines and lightweight, they are fuel-efficient.
Usually cars in this category are comfortable for 4 passengers inclusive of the driver, though fitting 5 people is not really a problem. But do remember that legroom and elbowroom is not generous, and may probably not be the most comfortable choice for physically large people.
Convertibles
Most Convertibles are sports cars, meaning two seats, with good Power to weight ratio and superior handling. Convertibles are great when the weather's perfect. One gets both the options in a Convertible i.e. driving with the Soft top down & If required with the Soft top closed.

Luxury
Cars under the Luxury category are expensive, to buy as well as to maintain, and are a status symbol more than anything else. These are cars that come with an extremely high level of comfort and luxury features.
These cars are a pleasure to drive over long distances because of their powerful engines and high levels of safety and comfort.
Because of their larger dimensions both in the passenger area, the boot and the engine section, they may be a tad difficult to manoeuvre and park in the city. But since a majority of cars in this segment are chauffeur driven, you wouldn't have to worry about that. *

Mid-Sized
Cars that fall under this category are supposed to be reasonably spacious, and high on comforts and safety features. They are suited for both intra-city and highway use, though due to their larger dimensions can sometimes be a handful in the city.
Cars in this category usually come with ample headroom and legroom, and can comfortably seat 5 people inclusive of the driver. Normally the manufacturers, to reduce price, offers stripped down versions of the same model. *

Multi-Purpose
Vehicles in this category are designed for heavy-duty tasks and to haul heavy luggage. These are ideally suited for commercial purposes, though they also serve as a cheap means of transport for large families. This is mainly due to the fact that most of these cars are powered by diesel engines, and come with space for up to 8 passengers. *

Sports Utility Vehicle
Vehicles in this category are usually characterised by big diesel engines and high ground clearance. These are good for all sorts of rough and country roads, though in India few of these vehicles get off road to do what they were made to do. Mud-slinging!
Customers in India buy these vehicles mainly because of their intimidating size and high driving position, the latter providing fabulous all-round visibility.
These are vehicles for the young and the young at heart, who want their cars to be an extension of their personalities. *

Station-Wagon
With loads of space, loads of comfort, and loads of useful accessories, cars that come under the estate/station wagon segment are ideal for your camping/out of city road trips.
Known for their saloon like comforts and enormous luggage carrying capacity, these are right cars for those weekends when you feel like you want to get away. *

If manufacturers stick to these rules, everything will fall into place.

We seem to have the most number of segments here and cars are being categorised based on, i dunno what.

They call the Scorpio an SUV and i see ads that compare it to the Accent, NHC and Ikon.

The Skoda RS with a 1.8 ltr engine is pitted against the 2.4 ltr Accord which is also bigger in size, while the 2 ltr Octavia is supposed to be a segment down..........so why is the 2ltr Mondeo a D segmenter? *

The Palio is big for the B segment and small for the C segment, so say hello to segment B+. *

Tomorrow if honda releases the 1.7 Civic, where does that go? Segment C +/- ?

So you see, everything is so very confusing here.

The government should make strict rules regarding car segments. They should make it very clear that a car *made for a certain segment should have the safety features, engine capacity and body dimenssion specified for that segment.

I don't see that happening.

Here r the FE figures

Palio NV 1.2
ACI - 9.2 city/ 14 highway
OD - 9.7 city/ 18.75 highway

Palio D 1.9
ACI - 11.8 city/ 15.7 highway
OD - 11.7 city/20 highway.

I don't think 18.75 and 20 are bad FE figures.

They need something to fill the program up with! One episode, a test of the Getz, another day, the Fusion and then....what do wee do next ? hmmmmm, okay lets take the Maybach and compare it with hmmm I know that Skoda.

If you note, the footage for comparo tests are usually from old episodes cunningly cut and shut together

14 is low and 18.75 is just too much. My frined's NV has done couple of high way trips so far. It gave around 15-16. So the ideal measure is some where in between.

OD smokes dope. Proof? Way back I remember a comparo of the Palio vs Indica. The winner, according to their test, was clearly the Indica. And they hadnt even taken service quality into consideration!!!

OD = On Dope?

hey aadix
hormazd has a beemer
always see it when i go to his sons house
its the green one owne by nana chaudsma i think

anyway
back to the topic
as pointed out by shan2nu, our government needs to get a segment for each car depending on the space inside and not on the price
if that happens then the palio will sell like hot cakes coz it will come in the c-seg and the FE will be acceptable
anyone have contacts in the govt
pl inform them

But OD's long term review of Palio D sometime ago was very pro.

May be because they weren't comparing it with any other car at that time.

Do they add a disclaimer in their reviews that they are owned by the Tata group that also produces the Tata cars? Ethical journalism would require that they do so.

I Also Dont Beleive In Od S Fe Figures They Are So Skyrocketing Theyve Shown Nhc S Highway Figure Somewhere Around 26 Or 27,indicas Around 24,in Real World Driving Even On An Empty Road I Dont Think That A Honda City(new)can Exceed 20kmpl When Driven At 100kmph And If U Drive At 60kmph On A Empty Plain Smooth Highway Buy Urself A 800 Or Alto
