Renault is updating its current lineup of cars with refreshed versions. We know that a Kiger facelift is in the works, and now the first images of the updated Triber have surfaced online.

A camouflaged test mule of the upcoming Triber was recently spotted in Chennai as it was being transported on a flatbed. The facelift version is expected to get revised taillights and other minor updates.

As it is only a mid-life facelift, the overall shape of the Triber will remain unchanged. Similarly, the same engines will be retained.

The Triber is currently available with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 71 BHP and 96 Nm. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. Renault is also likely to offer customers the option of a retrofit CNG kit.

This is what Brand Renault has come to be in India; absolutely zero excitement for this product and their hesitancy to even understand that.

Let's hope facelifted Triber can pull back some extra sales. This is a 4-star vehicle which offers features at par for the price.

Definitely shortcomings such as asthmatic engine, poor insulation etc. remain.

Renault need to do something more than just cyclical updates. The 1.0NA unit just doesn't work well beyond a point and there's surely more powertrains in their arsenal beyond the 1.0 Turbo? If Renault need to succeed, they have to invest big in Hybrids or EV. They can't keep doing this "value for money" gimmick forever when we know what they are capable of globally.

They have more work to do to make it 4-star again than just adding airbags; Global NCAP reported that the (current) Triber’s structure is asymmetrical, and applied a penalty when they reassessed it against the latest protocols. That, and its frontal chest compression couldn’t cope with the tougher limits set by the new protocols.

4 stars 5 years ago does not mean 4 stars today. Infact the whole point of building a new car to meet today's safety requirements is why Nissan/Renault and some others have been selling the same product with minor facelifts for a decade. Not willing to put money into new products and are all waiting to see how EVs will take over mid 2030s.

That is true, but if the "new" Magnite is any indication, Renault-Nissan appear to be aiming high even on new tests with these facelifts. For starters, they have added lap pretensioning for the knees, and a quick look at the new owner's manual reveals other NCAP-specific oddities like endorsing expensive Joie child restraints for the age groups GNCAP tests.

Don't forget these products (at least the Magnite) will also be exported to LHD markets in Latin America, which may be behind on safety legislation but have much more advanced consumer tests.

IMO, what the Triber and Kiger's sales prove, however, is that high NCAP stars are slowly becoming less of a differentiator because every serious manufacturer is doing it nowadays. Back in 2021 the Triber was among a handful of affordable 4-star cars; now I don't think it will be long before anything less than that (despite new criteria) will be an exception. Renault will probably have to play the Triber's practicality card even harder.
