Reminds me of that song by Johnny Cash - One Piece at a Time.

This is simply not possible. Not in such a quantity. And no way it can have gone undetected for so long.
Especially in a modern, well designed, high security zone with proper recording systems and cameras and processes and procedures.
Most likely some kind of ‘error’ in accounting or in the inventory system.

I doubt if these were new engines; probably engines that may have been rejected and those removed from test vehicles have gone missing from the plant.

Re: 900 car engines stolen from Kia’s Andhra Pradesh factory

This kind of thing requires people from top to bottom being involved. Top of the line racket, proper planning and execution because it didn’t come to light for 5 years.

Possibly someone in the chain was short-changed or a fallout among the group which led to a tip off and investigation.

On a similar note:

While we are discussing missing engines here, how about full cars ? Many years back, a person I knew had shared about a story about cases of how luxury cars were assembled and slipped out of the facility, to be sold outside. He said he was very curious to know the inner working of this, but soon realized this was dangerous stuff, and backed out of the idea.

There exists a huge market for engines in the costal areas. They retrofit them on fishing boats is what I heard.

Re: 900 car engines stolen from Kia’s Andhra Pradesh factory

I have lived near the Tata Motors factory in Pune around 2008-2010.In fact my house was some hundred meters away from the Benz gate , and the indica gate was also visible.

The few hundred meters from the factory to our house was an empty ground sometimes used for parking factory cars and loading and unloading.

During that time, I had often seen that cars which are driven out of the factory to be taken to the stockyard for loading, the drivers used to stop enroute and I could see the cars parked with the hood open. This was mostly late at night and used to be on for quite some time. I had asked about it to a petrol pump attendant nearby who also knew about it and he told me that sometimes they swap parts before taking the car to the stockyard. I never investigated further, and thought that maybe actually for some diagnostics and report that they were stopping.
Even in such a scenario, they might be swapping simple parts which can be easily ignored. Entire engine being stolen, a part which is clearly logged in all papers, is quite unheard.

Re: 900 car engines stolen from Kia’s Andhra Pradesh factory

The proverbial "tip of the iceberg" ! Speaking as a finance guy, all I can say is Internal control processes have not been robust ; most corporates have what is known as perpetual inventory control and something like this should have triggered an alarm many moons ago.
Contrary to what many have opined, even assuming there is collusion, a robust internal control environment should make such theft impossible to carry out.
It will be interesting to follow this and watch what unravels!

Re: 900 car engines stolen from Kia’s Andhra Pradesh factory

The engine ECUs were having advanced AI chips installed, and engines themselves were transformable. The transformers!
After dark, they transformed themselves into rocks and jumped over the wall from the back of the factory. KIA should also audit the rocks.

They could get exported out of the country. I am sure there will be a market in Eastern Europe or parts of Africa where import regulations are dubious.

As others pointed out this could be a heist in transit with forged documents or fudged numbers and hence its gone unnoticed for so long. Definitely an insider job me thinks.

Re: 900 car engines stolen from Kia’s Andhra Pradesh factory

This thread is the reason why such movie clips are made.

For those who cannot understand the language in this video... Guys pays a bribe to get a 'Open Water Well' dug/made/built - fake - because it was never made.

Gets a receipt/invoice/bill to prove it was dug.

Calls the cops to complain that the well is stolen.

Takes them to the field where the well was dug and missing now. Shows the Government receipt proving the well was dug and inspected by officials.

Cop walks away after resigning the Khaki on the spot.

Not much difference between this threads story and the movie clip.
