NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Re: April 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Few observations:
1. Honda numbers worry me, are they going to close it in India? Even newly launched Amaze isnt solving anything for Honda India.
2. While Kylaq is pulling numbers, Kushaq has lost the charm I guess.
3. Slavia/Virtus twins happily eating into Verna/City sales.
4. Creta became bread and butter for Hyundai, contributing to 40% of sales.
5. Glad to see Mahindra in the 2nd spot but biggest surprise for me is XEV9E has more numbers than BE 6E.
6. VW should immediately bring Kylaq's twin.
7. Mahindra should consider rewamping Marazzo platform and enter into mpv space. It's a pretty big space with limited options.
8. Citroen and Jeep numbers are worrisome.

Re: April 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Hyundai's lone warrior, the Creta, retained its top spot for another month—its only bright moment, as the Venue dropped out of the Top 15 list. With just one car in the Top 15 and another in the Top 20, the outlook remains bleak for a manufacturer that once held the number two position for so long.

Once a leader, the Maruti Alto has finally exited the Top 20 list. The small car segment continues to struggle, with only three A and B-segment cars making it into the Top 20. Aside from the Tata Tiago, the list is predominantly dominated by Maruti models. Maruti maintains its stronghold in the Top 10, securing seven positions. However, in a surprising twist this month, the Top 5 is not entirely Maruti’s domain. The Mahindra Scorpio has squeezed into the mix, joining the usual contender—the Creta.

The Tata Punch maintained its erratic movement in the rankings, plunging from last month’s number 3 spot to number 11. Meanwhile, the Tata Nexon climbed one position to reach number 6. Alongside these two, Tata’s only other representative in the Top 20 is the Tiago. This is far from ideal for a manufacturer aiming to reclaim the number two position.

While Hyundai and Tata continue to have only two or three models each in the Top 20, Mahindra managed to place four cars on the list this time. The Scorpio regained ground, securing a coveted spot in the Top 5—an impressive achievement for Mahindra. Having recently taken over the number two manufacturer position, it appears they are on the right track.

The MG Hector showed a significant rise compared to last month’s figures. What could be driving this surge?

Additionally, several Maruti models, including the Maruti Celerio and Maruti Alto, saw a decline in numbers compared to last month. Should Maruti be concerned?

Re: April 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Wondering why no other players like Hyundai, Tata etc are not entering the MPV segment which is having significant volume, Especially the segment just below Innova. Ertiga is consistently selling 14k+, XL6 sells between 3 to 4 K units and Carens consistently sells about 5K+ units per month.

If Hyundai enters this segment, it will definitely increase their volumes and they already have models like stargazer etc. Same with Marazzo, where they just needs to refresh and market that car.

Re: April 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

India continues its descent towards a dystopian car market of 3 big players with these sales numbers. No other brand is succeeding in luring the customers, partly due to their own lethargy in innovating according to the Indian market, and partly due to the Indian herd mentality.

Such a shame to see Honda struggle month after month. Would hate for them to shut shops here, but it looks like they are headed out if they don't do something fast.

Honda is here to stay. They are very slow to react to market needs, but they are not Ford/Nissan either.
They have a few intersting models lined up for india which is thoroughly discussed here.

Re: April 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

The sales for Suzuki's Ertiga+Rumion+XL6 at 22,382 units and Baleno+Glanza at 17,312 units (Mighty 34,078 units if we combine the 16,766 units of Fronx and Taisor since, they are just elevated versions of these cars) are truly commendable to achieve for any OEM.
Even if we do not merge the fronx twins with Baleno these Sales if would have had not been made through Toyota, would have led Suzuki eat up all the 5 spots in the top 5!

Numbers for Honda are a nightmare for the management the Elevate has also slipped to south of 1000 units a month and they definitely need turbo engines as well as Sub-4m SUV (Kylaq is doing wonders for Skoda)

Re: April 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Wild, wild market. There is no car market like this anywhere else in the world . India rocks, thanks to its sheer diversity, unique behaviours & massive size.

The Scorpio is a 16 - 30 lakh SUV now and is on position 5! Mahindra is the only brand to have FOUR cars costing 10+ lakhs in the Top 20. In fact, if you remove the XUV3X0 and Thar 1.5L, Mahindra is making a whole lot of 20 - 30 lakh rupee sale transactions (XUV700 has also sold 6800 copies).

What a story! From being a maker of rattly, overheating, uncomfortable basic Jeep-derivatives, to launching the crude 1st-gen Scorpio to now selling top-class cars like the XUV700, BE 6, XEV 9E....

Other declining car OEMs should really learn from Maruti Suzuki. They literally have all segment car in their portfolio and most of them making to the top 10 every month consistently without any major efforts.

Re: April 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

The numbers for Honda are alarming. Both City as well as Elevate are now below 1000 Nos. Even the Newly launched amaze saw a sharp decline.
Their Present Powertrain+ Transmission combo are not working.
Bleak days ahead.
Kylaq is turning out to be a sleeper hit.

Citroen and Jeep are hopeless as usual.

I am very curious about the double digit Marazzo units being shipped every month. Is it being manufactured to order?
