Re: May 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Maruti Dzire might just be the Creta of sedans! Such an indisputable brand IMO. Irrespective of the cab and personal vehicle sales ratio, those are some pretty solid numbers for a sedan in 2025!

I dont know how Honda is surviving with those numbers. When Dzire and even the stupid Aura can sell so much, then why cant the Amaze? City seems to be a lost case in 2025, just 5 years after launch of the 5th gen. I am not sure if it will survive till the next lifecycle update.

VW should seriously consider a Kylaq derivative. Just look at the numbers Kylaq is bringing in for Skoda!

In the month of May, Toyota sold more Hyryders than Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara to the dealerships. That's an interesting event.

And it's ahead of Kia Seltos as well.

Looks like the new "world" order is MS at the top (but losing market share) with M&M securing the second spot for a long time, which they truly deserve. Good contest between Hyundai and Tata for the third spot. Good for consumers.

Sad to see Honda and VW/Skoda. Even after years of being in the Indian market, they can't seem to get it right at all.

Mahindra will be looking at the D1 & D2 segment graphs and wondering, hmm we should have launched an XEV11E as well.

I think these two segments have become very urban and will start to be the next EV battle ground, companies who are investing below this segment in EVs are going to need very high economies of scale to operate - we know where that will go eventually.

The new Dzire is topping the charts mainly because its now offered for taxi use — the same reason behind the decline in WagonR sales.

Re: May 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Tata must work on Harrier and Safari. Their combined sales is just one third of XUV700! Just like Hyundai (which extremely reliant on Creta), Tata is also heavily dependent on Nexon and Punch. Tiago and Tigor which were supposed to stop gap products are still being sold. As a line up, they are just floating partly due to others are not doing as well. I soon see them relegated to 4th position unless they are able to increase the sales across all of their models and Harrier EV and Sierra proves to be game changer!

Another interesting tit bit - Jimny witnessed 58% sales growth!! Power of playing around with a smaller base.

Re: May 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Pricing strategy of Kodiaq seems to be working (though early to comment), they are more or less doing similar numbers of pre facelift. Comparatively Tucson is doing only 60 units even with multiple engine options and much lesser price.

While Skoda can feel happy about Kylaq success, Kushaq is hit badly. Definitely need a facelift or new model.

What’s up with Verna!! It’s going City route and soon gonna fight for bottom spot. Virtus is dominating this segment.

And about Honda and Jeep, less said better.

Re: May 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Kylaq seems to be eating into Kushaq's volumes while Taigun seems to have come down by half ~2K to ~1.1K in the past 6 months.

Skoda/VW need to refresh Kushaq/Taigun at least during the festival season to see a bounce back in numbers.

Honda numbers are depressing (City losing heavily sub - 500 numbers) and Elevate failing to lift them.

Re: May 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Finally, Maruti has reclaimed the number one position from the Hyundai Creta.

Hyundai’s lone warrior, the Creta, was pushed down to fourth position this month, while the Hyundai Venue is once again on the verge of dropping out of the Top 20 list, currently sitting at number 19. With just one car in the Top 15 and another barely clinging to the Top 20, the outlook remains bleak for a manufacturer that once firmly held the number two spot.

The small car segment continues to struggle, with only three A and B segment cars making it into the Top 20 – all of them from Maruti. Maruti maintains its stronghold in the Top 10, securing six positions.

The Tata Punch continued its erratic trajectory in the rankings. This month, it gained a few positions to reach number 9, while the Tata Nexon slipped to number 10. These are the only two cars Tata currently has in the Top 20 – far from ideal for a manufacturer aiming to reclaim the number two position.

While Hyundai and Tata each have just two models in the Top 20, Mahindra has managed to place five cars on the list this time. The Scorpio has retained its coveted spot in the Top 5 – an impressive milestone for Mahindra. Having recently overtaken its rivals to become the number two manufacturer, it seems Mahindra is on the right track.

The MG Comet showed a significant rise compared to last month’s figures. What could be driving this surge? It’s similar to the MG Hector’s recent spike in numbers. Could it simply be MG dispatching vehicles in bulk? Perhaps this also explains the sudden drop in numbers for the MG ZS EV.

The Mahindra BE.6 more than doubled its numbers – possibly due to the clearance of pending orders.

Re: May 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Maruti: should continue holding on strongly to the top position since they've somewhere tried to rejuvenate themselves

Mahindra: brilliant - the SUV strategy has paid off, and how

Hyundai: I would be very nervous sitting in the boardroom. Just a couple of good products from Tata would see then going to 4th, especially since they are a one trick pony

Honda: very, very sad state if affairs. The king has been de throned and now sent in exile
