Honda City Sport Edition details leaked; spied inside out

Honda is gearing up to launch the City Sport Edition in the Indian market. Images of the new special edition have already surfaced online, revealing all the changes made to the popular sedan.

The City Sport Edition is expected to receive a few cosmetic updates, starting with a blacked-out front grille, black ORVMs, and a black lip spoiler. The thick chrome strip on the front fascia has been replaced with a gloss black element, and it gets a ‘Sport’ badge on the boot lid.

So apart from name there is nothing sporty about this edition. Without a turbo engine and some drastic changes the sale of City will remain in 3 Digits for a foreseeable period of time.

Seems to be the based on middle spec Honda City as the top does comes with reflector base LED units, these one having a halogen projector setup with halogen turn indicators.
Despite being marketed as a sporty edition, it offers little to no actual sportiness like almost all Indian cars on sale.

Gen. 5 FL City owner here. This is a lazy attempt at 'sportifying' a nice car. The car pictured seems like it's based on the V variant, and all they've done is blacked out a few elements and slapped on the boot-lip spoiler from the ZX . That sweet 1.5L motor definitely deserves better. If not a more powerful engine, the least they could have done is offer wider tires, a sportier alloy wheel design, and retuned suspension. That would have elevated the package to whole new level.

Wake up, Honda India! Your cars aren't exactly setting the sales charts on fire, and I doubt token services like these are helping the cause. It is 2025, and it is high time you stop taking Indian consumers for granted if you are serious about surviving the onslaught from the competition.

Will there be a single variant or different trims will be available? I think that the 'Sport' model would have looked better with the grille and trims of the ZX variant. Also, the LED headlamps would have looked better. If it was based on the ZX, this would have looked more aggressive but anyway, I don't see this half hearted exercise generating any interest in the car and the overall segment itself.

Just a small correction. With the 5th Gen City, Honda changed the engine head to DOHC from the earlier SOHC. This bumped the power output to 121 BHP from the earlier 119. This was not highlighted much by Honda itself and hence most reviewers still quote the old figures. The brochure though quotes the actual new figures:

Thanks.

Nope, in the image you shared, the power figures are given in kW and PS. The 121 value refers to PS, not HP. 89 kW equals 121 PS, and 121 PS is about 119 HP. 1 PS is approximately equal to 0.98632 HP.

Thanks. I stand corrected.
But the 4th Gen City details says 117 BHP. Does is still mean that the DOHC addition meant a small boost in power. Or has the PS and BHP figures been used interchangeably by the media?

What I understand from this is that the City is actually 119 BHP, as its power in a metric sense is 89 kW. One bhp is 746 watts, whereas PS is a German unit that stands for Pferdestärke, which is 735.5 watts and hence 121 PS.

Yeah, I just looked up the 4th-gen’s power figures on Google, and it makes around 117 HP (119 PS), which is approximately 87 kW. So yes, there is indeed a slight bump in power of about 2 HP in the DOHC engine of the 5th-gen City compared to the SOHC in the 4th-gen.

Honda City Sport Commercial.

I don't understand how blackening out things, adding a spoiler and comparing with a F1 car makes a product "SPORTIER". Just another gimmick from Honda.

My 2 cents on the Sport Edition:

The blacked-out exterior and interior look good, but this feels like a missed opportunity by Honda. They should've offered a manual too; CVT just isn't for enthusiasts. A manual would've fit the "Sport Edition" better. Also, it should've been based on the top variant, since it misses basic stuff like an auto-dimming IRVM.

Re: Honda City Sport Edition details leaked; spied inside out

Looking at the seats and interior trim, I am led to believe these are close to the changes made to the City RS in Southeast Asia, but to the V trim instead of the top for reasons I don't understand.

I fail to understand why they would not just name it RS here too, as the badge (on the front and rear) is probably among the more elusive things about it anyway.

For those who might say it would need an engine change to be called RS: even the Malaysian RS has the 1.5L i-VTEC, not the 1-litre 3-pot turbo which is sold only in Thailand to get tax incentives for <1.3L engines.

Malaysian City brochure for reference: here.

Blacking out the front grille is something I am contemplating since last year. But my son is against it. I had seen a video on YouTube where a user had done the same. Here's the screenshot.

Re: Honda City Sport Edition details leaked; spied inside out

While the car looks nice and comfortable, calling Honda City a sporty car is like calling a horse a cheetah. It is easily outmatched in the performance department by the competitors with their turbo petrols. In an already niche segment, it is more or less catering to an even smaller cohort of “Honda only” customers.
