Are you talking about 4x4 or 4x2 since I had already posted ORP earlier, unless I am missing something in my calculations or they are.

The difference between my pricing calc and what dealer is telling you is quite high.

I am talking about 4x2. These pricing figures were corroborated by the Concorde guys as well.

hey guys,

been following this thread for the past 6 months or so. decided to join now since the safari 2.2 is FINALLY launched.. waited since last december for it!!

quick question, how much would it cost to actually ditch the standard 16" wheels and upgrade to 17" alloys and the requisite tyre upgrades?

just came after TD, from Dhingra Motors, Gurgaon,

Ex Showroom : 862000
OR 903650

4% finance discount, 4000 Rs corporate discount, No dealer discount, bad

following is the feedback.

Car is very silent, can not say its diesel car
Cabin is also very silent, zero outside noise
Excellent pickup even with AC full
very effective AC

In that Demo car, Clutch was very hard, though salesman did insisted that this car has problem, I was bit disappointed...

On the Display car, clutch was soft, so not sure which car is right..

There was rattle sound after 60km/hr

After driving that demo car, now my Indica is giving very nice feeling, very soft clutch, and better control.

Not so great first impressions

Walked across to Concorde motors to have a look at the vehicle.. They have a demo vehicle as well. Quick thoughts: (Very personal bias)

Outside:
- No clean lines - They have way to go on their body work and sheet metal design to get the smooth aerodynamic seamless look from front to end.. Lots of level differences between the doors and the rest of the body and the claddings.. Not impressed
- The EX was on display - the looks of the vehicle are not dramatically different from the older one.. slight change to the front grill/bonnet
- Did not like the cheap looking rims/alloys..
- I hope all these guys stop putting these stickers (Yikes!)

Inside
- Sat inside - first impression - tried to push the seat back and found it was at max. I am 6'2" and it felt cramped.. Would not like to sit in that position for long drives, or for that matter start/stop city driving either.. Bad leg space
- Plastics - Maybe i am biased, but cheap (come on tata this is 2007!) quality knobs - did not have a good feel to it when you switched - did not give you an impression that it would last..
- Again misalligned stuff - bad..
- Have a blower at the centre (roof) that points both directions - front towards the windshield as well as the back.
- Simple dashboard and meters
- My hands having touched the steering started smelling of oil rather than the new car smell.. not the best way to impress customers
- Door handles have a long way to go before the doors open.. Again give you the feeling that it might not last..
- Doors dont close with a soft push.. needs a little bang (for a brand new vehicle!)

Did not consider looking at it any further.. Still disappointed with the quality.. May be i am spoilt by Japanese finish or my expecations are high.. Will not go near a Tata..

couple of more observations:
1. Middle seat in 2nd row is useless and uncomfortable, due to the hard top of the armrest.
2. AC Vent Plastic is real cheap and not correctly aligned on joints, found the same in 2-3 cars
3. Steering response is good, I think very good, but I felt car was swaying a bit. May be I was bit uncomfortable driving that huge truck for the first time
4. Tilt Steering quite useless, top most position is still very comfortable, I wish it could have been tilted up more.
5. That steel Rims looks ugly, no change from previous Dicor
6. Beige interior looks way better than that cheap grey, still no way near to the interiors of Innova.

Finance Break-up

EX 4X2

Showroom 862000
Insurance Approx 28000

TRC 600)

Rangaraj, just out of interest, which Jap SUV do you have in India at this price point? And please don't say "Innova"! No offense but it does sound like a plain & simple Tata-bashing post from your end....................did you really expect Japanese quality? I also find it odd that you don't have a single comment on the actual USP of the 2.2 which is its engine - or were you so put-off that you didn't even want to drive it?

I do agree with you! By the way, I'm 6'1 and do about 110 kms of commuting every day - if there's one strong point about the Safari, its fatigue free driving comfort (passenger comfort is, of course, beyond compare as sworn by all who have been passengers)

Can you ask for a breakup of ORP, that will clear up things.
