Yes, but in India they will strip it and keep the old warhorse going. Just like the Alto and 800.

Hyundai is itching to raise the price of its bottom-of-the-line car.

So the poor nine-year old Santro must be retired.
And its place filled with a car that will undoubtedly be dearer to buy (as in ... not endearing but certainly costlier)

Well once you've shelled out good money, it will be endearing as well (money always endears). Congrats Hyundai!

Then they will position it as better than Santro, newer than Getz.
With that positioning it can be as cheaply built as a Santro, yet as expensive to buy as Getz.

Hyundi Pa coming in Oct End.

According to this artile in Economics times : Article Window

Pa is coming in next few weeks....
will be priced between Santro and getz.

So does that mean that Santro is not getting phased out?

It will be interesting to see the specs. If they position it right it will draw some customer from Santro/Wagon R category & some from Getz/Swift/UVA category.
Expected to create a new segment alltogether.

Hyundai indicated that they had no intention to phase out the Santro atleast for now, but I guess we will see a downward revision of the prices, plus a limited range to take on Alto, Indica etc

Being it a Hyundai, pricing will be a thing to look for.. They are famous for not-so-good pricing..

I think they have already rationalized their Santro portfolio a week back with just 3 versions and the top ends at 3.46 lakhs ex-showroom price. So we might not see further price reduction in Santro (ofcourse good discounts might be there). And they will most probably launch the PA from 4 Lakhs onwards (base version) which will give 50k difference between Santro top end and PA base. That might not be the best strategy in pricing but that is what Hyundai would do (for all we know of them).

NO tiger this segment already exists and has been here since the launch of indica

(neglecting M 800)
1st segment alto,santro,matiz

2nd segment zen,indica,palio,wagonR

3rd segment getz,aveo,swift

4th segment Fabia,SRV

so you can see from what i have highlighted that the only segment hyundai was missing was the 2nd one
maruti has its cars in each of the above segments
its the same segment which has wagonR,zen/estelio,indica and the palio

I think both santro & Spark is in Zen/WagonR catogory( by price). Santro is competing against Wagon R & not alto.
The problem Hyundai having is, if they price pa in 4lac(basic) bracket they will be in Swift category & if they price even 30k less than it will eat into santro sales.
Assuming they will price at 4lac, then the specs should be matching to Swift.
Any way they have a problem on hand.

I do not agree with your segmentation.

The first segment, the so called A-segment has the M800 and the Alto in it. Basically the sub-litre class. Tomorrow the Tata 1-lakh car will also be a part of this segment.

The B segment has the Santro, Indica, WagonR etc in it. Although Maruti tries a lot to claim that Alto is a B segment car most pundits will tell you that with a 800cc engine and such a compact size it is a A segment car after all.

The Swift, Getz, UVA bring in the B+ segment... and so the juggernaut rolls on.

So Santro will be re-positioned in the A segment that will reduce the resale value of existing ones !

The Pa, which will be slightly shorter than the Santro will initially sport a 1.1 litre engine, followed by higher engine options and a diesel version.
so it will be shorter than santro and will have a 1.1 and diesel will follow. So they want us to buy a shorter car than santro for 4 lacs

But is it shorter in height / length ???
