Hyundai lovers

Isn't it a bit late to share the gyan, as both cars (H 1.6, and Baleno) are out of production. If you had done this 8 yrs back, so many souls would have got enlightened.

Adding a bit more oil- Do anyone really think an Accent 1.6 could beat an Esteem on a 1-100 dash?

Finally, the thread reminded me of a famous TBHP quote

"Korean horses are malnutritioned"

Statutary Warning: "built like a tank" is proprietery to FIAT. If you use it for cars other than that you are inviting trouble, for sure.

Spotted a 1.6GLS + ABS version today. It was surely running 175, 13" tyres.

Someone compared the presence of each in rally circuit: Everything about the Accent is... too soft. After all it was marketed as a comfortable $1bn in R&D family car. It isnt the greatest of handlers (I have driven only a 1.5). That's probably the reason why you wouldnt see an Accent in rallies. Overall Baleno is a better handler.

Accent 1.6 on paper looks like a different car altogether. But between the 1.5L and 1.6L, the difference has to be enormous for it to actually perform / beat a Baleno/ do a sub-11 to 100 -- a fact that members who hasnt driven the 1.6 find hard to believe. It is possible that Tornado GTX would outrun Baleno in a straight line, quite possible. But it is better in all categories is a bit too much to take, for anyone, including Accent owners.

Those horses are not exactly korean. None of the Hyundai CRDis are.

Wasn't the Verna engine developed by Hyundai. The Accent engine was developed by Detroit Diesel, I believe. What about the Verna?

You're right.

In the history of the Accent in the Indian market only two versions were ever launched with 14" wheels & tyres. The first was the Tornado 1.6 featuring the (then newly launched) 1.6 engine & the second was the Viva Petrol which also featured the same engine. Both were shod with OE Alloys (same design on both) & had 185/60 R14 Bridgestone Potenza RE88 tyres.

Every other Accent version including the CRDi & Viva CRDi were available with 175/70 R13 Bridgestone S322 tyres on steel rims & wheel caps.

And I do know my tyres & wheels pretty well.

Folks, before we dwell much further on this subject, let me direct your attention to this post in some other thread

This should be an indicator of where this thread is coming from.

Most people who own Hyundais usually say the same thing. I don't believe all the anti-Hyundai hype that is floating around, probably created by its (established) competitors who fear a loss of their own market.

As for Accent 1.6 versus Baleno, I have no idea and I doubt if the difference (if any) matters on public roads. It may matter on the race track, but I personally don't care about minute differences in pickup and 0-100 timings. Both cars already have more than adequate pickup for our roads and which car will move more quickly through our traffic probably depends on each individual car, the driver and just plain luck.

Believe it. I've owned the lot, and a Hyundai with 103 bhp will be slower than a Suzuki with 94 bhp.

But which driver will be more happy after this depends purely on the car (and offcourse the drivers mentality).
