The pic posted by Karan looks like the version due for launch here in India, though not that variant.
Toyota is planning on launching the new version next year.

As regards FE, Toyota claims that the new car gives preliminary EPA FE figure of 27/35 mpg. The present Corolla gives revised EPA FE of 26/35 mpg for auto, and 28/37 mpg for manual. Can't say much from these figures about the FE advantage or otherwise of the new Corolla.
As far as I have seen all the cars that are released in US are somewhat reduced in power when released in India to meet the standards of fuel here. So do expect a 5% (atleast) power drop in this vehicle if it is US specifications.

For example the 0-100 km/h of the Evo X , is 5.2 sec. , & that of the XRS is 4.9 Sec. and at a cheaper price too ... this is not a large difference but , then too it is faster ... this is just to indicate that COROLLA XRS is targetting the sports sedans such as the Subaru Stis , the Evos , and the Audis S4.
And yeah this is an good answer too the OCTY VRS .
I dont think that the XRS would make it to INDIA , but there always is a probablility, u never know ...

Quite true..seems a lot like the Camry.Since the Corolla has done well in India,I'm pretty sure a new design will only strengthen the sales.

I just saw 4 corolla cars come out of the ARAI campus, all 4 brand new with light stickering to hide the name the toyota logo and some body panels, they looked pretty much similar the current corolla, not like any of the images on this thread.

So is it a new variant that is coming our way? but then why does it need ARAI approval? then is it probably a diesel?

Sorry, could not get any photos. :-(

Now.. why would the new Toyota look dated compared to this??? Looking at the blue pic posted above, I feel its even better looking than the civic.

Not sure which one you mean,by 'blue pic'. The Corolla doesn't look very different from the current style. The Civic definitely looks more refined, from its earlier version.
As for the Lancer, that's one huge jump up the ladder.

even i like the mini camry design
but too be honest the civic is way way better in design
the civics design has totally made it appear superior to the corolla
for years they have battled shoulder to shoulder and today civic has a neat upper hand and i must say civic deserves the credit

Sure thing.I think the Civic has surpassed the Corolla in many aspects. In the US market,I feel the Civic has slipped into the likes of the Camry & Accord.

Corolla's even the "S" badged one can be termed as a "boring" good car.

guyz, you haVe to admit 1 thing though.

The body of the civic is too weak. kick it and it will have dents

in that regards the corolla is better
even suspension of civic is not something honda can boast about.

Just hope that the new corolla comes up to be a masterpeice!

The mindset that judges the rigidity of a vehicle by the rigidity/thickness of the "skin" panels needs to change.

Not much new but streamlining is functional

This type of coach work design is old but wind resistence does not change nor streamlining. It is not pretty, it is functional except for the grill maybe. Years ago when introduced this rounding of front to tappered rearend was jokingly called "suppository on wheels" design.
