Trust me on this issue.I drive a Toyota Corolla, Innova 2.5 and Hyundai Getz 1.3GLS. I took a TD of a brand new Palio 1.6 Stile just 4days back and whack.. there were vibrations on the steering, gearbox and so much of noise in cabin. Am in the process of buying a new car selling my Getz, yesterday also got to TD a VernaSX CRDi and OMG! Is it a diesel or what?? Such has to be the reaction of new-gen cars. Palio is old school, but it is still the best POWER you can buy for that money.

At least the Palio 1.2 is no way near super silent..
If u call Palio super silent what would be the Getz called then..?

why do people buy diesels? for fuel economy. for low running costs. for drivability at low speeds.

why do people buy petrols? for smoothness. for the sweet sound of an engine revving to high rmps.

any car that starts with a clatter is a no-no for me. add to that the poor handling of the getz and the palio wins hands down.

think about the 1 lakh price difference. now add the k&n performance filter, free flow, nice wheels, all those engine mods u guys keep talking about (porting, polishing, etc etc) and the palio will still smoke the getz, especially through a nice twisty track

Palio is not refined compared to Getz. When i went for TD after lauch of stile 1.6, we were standing outside when the car started, and father asked if its a diesel.

Inside also noise is evident, but its kinda sporty note.

In which case I would vote for Grande Punto.
OLD and outdated . Its a DOHC 16 Valve 4 cylinder 100 BHP and AFAIK petrol getz and swift are SOHC what say ?

ok back to the topic i see palio winning here by some margin according to the polls.

I think we are deviating form the topic here.

But I am amazed to now Getz CRDI got almost equal vote without any test drives.
Otherway to look at it is, Palio got 50 % vote without people having experiance of getz CRDi.

I just cant belive that a car that was launched so long ago with whatever technology was available at that time can compete head to head like this with a so called new generation car with the latest technology heart. Man i seriously envy all those who bought this beast when it was launched. You guys had really decided to travel in class way ahead of time.cheers:

I've not driven the Getz CRDi. The petrol is nothing great other than lots of space. The verna engine had too much turbo lag. If they are plonking the same engine without changes into the getz, i dont think it'll be very different... sluggish at the bottom end, explosive power in a really narrow power band.

The Palio on the other hand has its own share of issues. I got to drive bottle's Stile 1.6 quite a bit over the last few days. The engine is amazing in it. The way it revs is crazy and after driving it, my cedia feels unresponsive.

However it is not a silent engine. Not that it matters cos the engine note is amazing, especially when revved. The gear shift is buttery smooth and the clutch ain't too bad either. Braking could have been better though. The steering is way too light and feels disconnected from the ground at moderate speeds. It also seems to have a bit of play.

The biggest problem with the palio though is tata build quality and QA. This 6 month old car rattles more than my dad's 9 year old zen. There are rattles from just about everywhere on the body. Damn irritating if you ask me. The other issue is the fit and finish of the dash. Looks rather poorly finished and plastics are not of very good quality.

However I'd still pick it up over the getz as its a much more sorted out car.
