Plastic rattles or body rattles... I don't know. It probably might be the former. Whenever we hit a bad patch of road, there was rattling everywhere .

Pages and pages of discussion with majority believing that the Getz Crdi has better straight line performance then the Palio 1.6.

NOTE: ACI does not have figures for the 1.6 Stile so the figures below are for the GTX. Also note that the engine in the Stile is slightly detuned for Euro IV norms but then the Stile also weighs lesser then the GTX so in the absence of Stile specific figures we can look at GTX.

To start off with, a 110 bhp diesel engine should logically with the inehrently better torque of diesel engines be better then a, in this case, slightly higher capacity petrol engine. Let's also include the Swift DDis in this comparo.

All figures from ACI. Read the details as car type, 0-100 kmph time, 20-80 kmph and 40-100 kmph and weight. Figures in bold show the best among the three cars.

Maruti Swift DDis 13.87 - 11.96 - 14.14 - 1065-1075 kgs

Hyundai Getz Crdi 11.32 - 13.06 - 16.05- 1137 kgs

Fiat Palio GTX 11.19 - 11.90 - 18.70 - 1080 kgs

Forget the GTX, the Getz CRdi with VGT and 110bhp is no match for a Swift DDis with 75bhp and FGT.

A hot hatch contender that isn't the best in any performance parameter?

And aren't the figures for an old and outdated engine pretty astonishing?

How many would like to re- vote now?

HOT HATCH hmmm

My criteria:
Engine = Power, Torque, Acceleration and some top speed
Chassis = Crisp Handling must
Looks = Yup it matters

And my vote goes to FIAT !!!

Good research amit. While I do agree with the 0-100 figures, I am not a great fan of other figures you are quoting.

The 20-80 kph figure you mentioned is for 3rd gear and 40-100 kph is for 4th gear. It doesn't really prove anything, as the gear ratios and max rpms for each car are different. Precisely why Palio GTX lags with 18.70 sec for 40-100 kph. Do the same in third gear (or in s10), and you would get a much better figure. Same reason why Swift (which max out quite early compared to other two cars) scores in 20-80 and 40-100 kph.

I would vote only after I drive Getz CRDi.

Just to give you a feel. My 6 yr old UNO runs with much less rattles than my 9 months old adventure sport (a simmilar cost cut variant of the palio adventure). ITs wuote simple. Calculate the cost that you paid 4 years ago for the palio. Consider the cost right now. COnsider the concept of "time value of money". How else can they give it at such low price. But still at that price it is one of the best things you can getz!!!

This was also a point which i consider while buying my Adventure, like there were news that FIAT may relaunch Adventure with updated looks, but seeing the views about downsizing the Stile from earlier Palio, i thought Adventure may also be downsized at relaunch.

100 X ("I'll NOT Vote until I TD the Getz CRDi")...

Heck!!! I don't care, my vote goes for the Getz CRDi...

Had we shown this poll 5-6 years earlier to the engineers of the Fiat 1.6 and were they told that a Diesel would compete their Petrol 1.6, they would have pinned this talk to their notice boards as "Joke for the day".

I'd vote for the Getz CRDi jus for the sake that a Diesel Hatch has mustered more than 100 horses under its hood and is ready to challenge a 1.6 Petrol Hatch and How!

Speakin about Diesel technology getting modern, how did Fiat answer??? The 1.3 Multijet DDiS engine doing duty in the Swift is built by Fiat, and is ready to challenge similar spec'd Petrol engines.
Way to go Fiat and Hyundai!!!

PS: I have driven the Palio 1.6 GTX and make no mistakes, it's a real hoot!!!

I hope the Getz CRdi becomes a super success. Maybe then, Fiat will launch the Grande Punto with the 1.9L JTD 130bhp engine with 6 speed M/T .

A more feasible situation would be seeing a Suzuki SX4 with 1.9L JTD

Yes. Or even the Fiat Linea 1.9JTD but none of them would be hot hatches .

Dream on buddy. Knowing Fiat, are you this hopeful? BTW, they are planning to phase out 1.9 JTD 8v 120/130 bhp engine in favour of 1.6 JTD 16v engine with displacements starting from 105 bhp till 150 bhp, as far as I know.

Oye..!!

The two cars can never be compared. They got different hearts - making them altogether different species.. Its like comparing a cow and a goat!! or a power saw and a lawn mooer...

The closest to the challenge was the Suzuki Swift with 87 bhp. Then came the Swift DDiS bringing the game even closer to the Palio. As seen in this thread http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...wift-ddis.html team-bhp stood with the Palio 1.6 (68 over 49). And Palio 1.6 still remains the unbeaten champion.

Now we have a new competitor. This time Hyundai has accepted the challenge. Is the Getz Prime 1.5 CRDi good enough to face against the Palio 1.6?

Fiat Palio Stile 1.6
  • Power- 100ps@5500rpm
  • Torque- 137Nm@4250 rpm
  • 1600 cc DOHC petrol
  • Price- Rs 4,31,952.
  • Both have no option of ABS
  • + points- Looks, build quality, petrol
  • -ve points- Mileage, FIAT.
Hyundai Getz Prime 1.5 CRDi
  • Power- 110 bhp@4000 rpm.
  • Torque- 240Nm@1900 rpm.
  • 1500cc DOHC diesel
  • Price- 5,69,900.
  • Both have no option of ABS.
  • + points- Space, power, diesel
  • -ve points- price, turbo lag.
You always wanted a hot hatch. What would it be?

(MODS: Sorry if post is irrelevant. However, from discussions going on in other threads, seems the topic is relevant)

I know i voted for the getz crdi but someone had quoted a top speed of 171kmph for the getz crdi
Well overdrives november issue quotes the true top speed of the hyundai getz crdi at a 'sad' and 'hopeless' 154.87 kmph.
Now how many want to change their answer to the palio
I definately want to shift to palio now
110 bhp and 154 kmph Sheess..!!
Off topic: a swift with its 75 bhp fixed geometry turbo has a true top speed of 152.4 kmph
So much for the 35 bhp advantage.

20-80 in 3rd gear - 13.61s
40-100 in 4th gear - 23.56 sec
