Ever since the hot hatch segment began, there was the Palio. The Palio 1.6 GTX changed the Indian automobile industry being the first hatch to offer 100bhp. And the challenge was not accepted by any other car-makers ever since.

The closest to the challenge was the Suzuki Swift with 87 bhp. Then came the Swift DDiS bringing the game even closer to the Palio. As seen in this thread http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...wift-ddis.html team-bhp stood with the Palio 1.6 (68 over 49). And Palio 1.6 still remains the unbeaten champion.

Now we have a new competitor. This time Hyundai has accepted the challenge. Is the Getz Prime 1.5 CRDi good enough to face against the Palio 1.6?

Hyundai Getz Prime 1.5 CRDi
You always wanted a hot hatch. What would it be?

(MODS: Sorry if post is irrelevant. However, from discussions going on in other threads, seems the topic is relevant)

If you could post their 0-100 timings and in-gear acceleration timings, it will be great. Again, someone who has driven both these cars extensively can comment about their ride, handling, steering feel and braking abilities as they are the prime components which would make a hot hatch.

Hyundai Getz Crdi
Source - ACI

0-100 kmph
Getz CRDi- 11.0s Palio Stile 1.6- 12.3s (OD Nov 2007)

40-100 kmph in fourth gear
Getz CRDi- 14.46s Palio Stile 1.6- 24.39s (OD)

Can someone post the roll-on figures, in other gears?

Please dont vote simply because of love for Palio or Getz. I am not voting because i haven't driven Getz CRDi (nor verna), so dont have a good knowledge of the motor in the hyundai.

Isnt 171 kmph top speed for a 110 bhp diesel hatchback too less?are these figures reliable?

I voted for the Palio Stile? Why? the statistics are one thing, but when you get into the subtle stuff like pedal positioning and all. I dont think the Getz comes close. (However I am speaking from experience of Palio 1.6 rather than Stile particularly and Getz rather than Getz 1.5 crdi). Now why would I talk about something as pedal positioning? Thats because when we are measuring the Hotness of a hot hatch, these things matter.

For a Hot car being driven in anger mode the 4th gear 40-100 roll on figures dont figure.

171kmph is too less??

As for me its the Getz any day. The 1.5 liter pot is simply a delight, and its one of the most comfortable cars I have ever driven.

As far as performance goes, be it 0-100 or roll on figures, getz simply blows away the palio.

If performance is the criteria, then the hottest hatch in the market is a diesel!

Which figures do we rely on?? ACI or OD ?

PS: Sujay..this thread is gonna turn into a battle ground by tomorrow;)

Yeah 171 is too less considerin the 3 pot version of the crdi motor which was doing duty in the accent crdi had a top speed of 170 kmph and this one is 171 even though the increament in power over the other one is 27 bhp.
Anway i vote for the getz crdi for the power+mileage combination.

Am jus in the process of buying a new car and lucky for this post even my choice was between Palio 1.6 and Getz CRDi both which I test drove today. My current car is a Getz 1.3 GLS.

Palio Stile 1.6 :
- Its come out with a new color , Magnesium Grey and it sure looks hot.
- Interiors are so cramped compared to Getz
- Detailing is old-age, i.e. Speedometer,buttons,backlights,etc.
- Engine very noisy and rough.
- Seating position is bad. I am 6.1
- Somebody here mentioned here about pedals,, I find it difficult to rest my leg on the
dead pedal and for once I mistook the throttle for brakes!! Scary.Tight.Small.
- Gearbox was an absolute delight to fiddle.
- Superb driveability in any gear.
- Brakes were too sharp
- Best performance among the 1.6ers ( Had also test driven SX4,Fiesta before )
- Cant comment on fuel efficiency.

Getz Prime 1.5 CRDi:
- Engine came to life with a big clatter
- Idling noise is audible in cabin even with A/C
- Best in class interiors and ergonomics
- Cabin felt very roomy compared to my Getz GLS,,
- Performance is outright,, 2nd gear 80 , 3rd 110 , 4th 140 , end of road phew!!
- Fells more quicker than Corolla. Then why compete with Palio?
- Gearbox is very different from my GLS. Its more smooth and short on my GLS.
- Suspension feedback is top notch, but feel Palio was more solid in this area.
- 110BHP 240NM, add pete's 130BHP 270NM. Does it get better than this.

For 5Lakhs OTR Bangalore, Palio 1.6 Sport is a good buy but the competition is getting ahead with QUALITY products. Hyundai Getz is one such quality product and you cant go wrong with it. My 2005 September Getz GLS has clocked till date 55,000Kms and not single electrical problem I've faced and the interiors are solid, not a little speck of rattle.Am trading my GLS for CRDi hands down. Go diesel power!!

Palio 1.6 is more than a lakh cheaper. So, that almost compensates for the diesel advantage of the Getz.

Is it because of the beige interiors? I felt everything else was same compared to old Getz.

have you spoken to the dealership yet. whats the price they are quoting after the trade in.

I think not many have driven Getz CRDi yet.
I was fortunate among who got the test drive frm display model on a Holiday after much lobby....:) But that stopped now too.
So much of the comments would be from the so called professional test drives from Overdrive, ACI,BS motoring.

To the question of which is a hot hatch?

The simple answer is Getz CRDi.:Cheering:

Cheers
Anju

Guys I TD both the cars in question & the result is obvious....I got the 1.6 sport.

Its sheer Driving Pleasure, c'mon the whole thing of comparison is absurd (from a drivers point of view).

1.6 Sport is in a class of its own.

Its a known fact that Palio Stile 1.6 Sport is meant for sheer driving pleasure. Its a drivers car with performance. Arguments on Nitty gritty things like better interiors / mileage doesn't hold good at all.

Certain things could be better in the crdi, but when it comes to rolling the wheels on the asphalt, it lags way behind 1.6 sport.

Someone looking for the concept of "Man & the Machine" would appreciate Palio stile 1.6 Sport.

Top speed 171 kmph? Not at all possible. We were discussing about this thing about ACI in getz crdi thread.
