Was Maruti Vans called Omni at the time of introduction ? I think only after the introduction of eight seaters it was called so.(subject to correction)

You are correct and wrong here. The Maruti Van was renamed as OMNI before the eight-seater version was introduced as OMNI E.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

I took a 1986 Maruti SS80 recently.Restoration work all most over. I will post pictures soon. Right now I am in need for A/C control nubs and sticker. I have already searched scrapyard at Hyderabad with no lock. If any one can help in this regard are most welcome. I am attaching sample picture for reference.

Thanks

The van was called just that, the Van, at launch. It had no name anywhere on the body. Only a MARUTI badge at the front. The same version came in the High roof and normal one.

Subsequently, the OMNI was released, in 89/90, and the high roof variant was discontinued. The colour palette also went thru some changes.

Mechanically the main difference was a softer rear suspension.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

A good SS80 standard for sale in Kerala at a highly unrealistic price.

Although the ad claims it to be single owner car, this car is originally from Trivandrum and reached the calicut owner before being owned by 2people in Trichur. So must be with the 4th or 5th owner now!!!

Don't really question the sellers, but skepticism creeps in a bit, how come those 30 year old cars mostly have less odo readings

I am not generalising, but can confidently say that there are many SS80's (mostly first owner) cars which have run less than 70000kms in the last 28 years. The reason for this is many of these cars were purchased by senior government officials etc in their fifties. Many of them used these only during weekends etc because they had official transport/conveyance.After retirement the quantum of travel naturally was less and so the cars covered less mileage. Moreover many of their family members acquired new cars down the years and so remained in the garage as a 2nd car or 3rd car.
You can confirm whether the odometer is correct by corroborating other features like whether it is having original paint, original headlamps, tail lamps, seats etc.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

My ex-1985 New Zealand Brown SS80 now owned by fellow team bhpian suren, seen at his place yesterday. The car's got a polish (never knew the paint could look so good when I had it!) although was a bit dusty yesterday, and the engine's tuned now, runs like a dream! He is, needless to say, just as happy with it and so is his son, for whom he actually bought it.

If you're wondering about that Zen wheel, that was actually the stepney, was given that way with the car even when I bought it. 'never actually used it though, but its now on temporarily because the original rear tyre had recently burst!

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

The brown 7000 SS80 looks very good and orignal as well. Minor touch-up could make it a show stopper! Lucky owner
