After a thorough check of Radiator, water circulation,i dont find any issues there.
Upon an investigation by my mechanic,he slowly revealed that the engine is weak and needs an overhaul.
What are the implications and consequences and also dent to the purse?
I pondered the idea of loading a new Zen/esteem engine, but that would shatter the originality of the car.Hence i dont want to even think in that angle.
Your advise please.
Even i had the same problem of overheating when driven in city limits and tried whatever the workshop manual asked to do . However there was some smoke emission from the valve door opening and from the silencer. Also has the problem of low mileage. So thought of opening the head and checking for valve seating and may be a set of rings. Once we changed the rings we noticed that the bore had developed some sort of a taper in 2 cylinders and the mechanic suggested that this will be of no use. Hence the next thought of buying a half engine was conceived. Since i have no idea of selling it, i thought i might as well do it. Currently the car is on a MGP half engine and runs very well. The cost was about 26k for doing the half engine, head, etc..
The over heating problem has disappeared.

No, the sgp engines are not available. However my mechanic told me one thing he has observed in the MGP engine, that when they look at the mould there are few numbers moulded and that, those with a screw head kind of a mould around these numbers are considered to be very good and precise as this has been his personal experience. The same/similar screw kind of mould is found on the original mould as well and not all mgp half engine blocks come with them is what he says.

Ajay,Suresh,Wasif..After a thorough check I discovered that the coolant wasn't flowing properly into the radiator and this was causing the heating of the engine.
I purchased a new radiator cap as the old one wasnt holding the pressure and voila the overheating has stopped. Now the temperature needle doesnteven get up tilll 1/4th mark even on full blast A/C.You can see a smile on my face now.

Ironically yesterday I got the allotment of my Nano which is scheduled for delivery next week, which, which means i would have 2 hatches in my stable..both of a concept kind.

OT: What does SS stand for in SS80?

Glad you found out the right culprit. These mechanics just love to take people on a ride, i am just thinking how many unsuspecting people become victims. BTW my lancer was not started for a month and the battery was disconnected(it was in the paint booth) when we fired the motor there was smoke coming and the mech was very quick in telling me to go for a engine rework. As Ajay rightly pointed out SS80 is the successor of the SS40. SS looks more like an engine code. Something like 'Suzuki SOHC' 80

TK stands for TATKAL if I am not mistaken.
Also the DX version was stopped in March1990 , no more clarion stereos, seatbelts, consoles .
Seat belt became standard equipment in 1994

Yes to an extent. Tee response by phone does not surprise me as if you had a chance to visit them personally you will understand that it is always flocked with atleast 15 people. Its a small shop but has godown elsewhere. Sometimes have to wait for him to get it from there.
