I don't mind dents and dings or lack of AC (although AC preferred) as I can spend some more and get these sorted out later on.

Cheers!
Technically it is same as our existing 800 cc car, but many of the cosmetic s are difficult to get now .
They are either cheap makes or very expensive, pls go for type 2 model instead.

I'm not too sure about the dimensions but I reckon it is a bit smaller than the later models. Someone who has an SS80 model might be able to fill in the dimensions?

I'm again not too sure about Madras but here I heard of a 'good' one that sold for 55k! Again, it is still possible to get one at a lower price bracket, just see that it isnt used by too many number of owners. Again, in your place, you'd have rust issues to look out for as well.

'Standard' versions can be had for 20-25k range as per my estimate. Deluxe versions a little higher.

Go through the first few pages in this thread to know the differences between the 2 so you'll know what to look for if going for a DX.

By type 2, do you mean the SB308IN(?) ie. the post 1986 model?

All the later model 800s are for that matter, nothing compared to the SS80, quality-wise!

I would say if 800 then go for SS80, otherwise go for any other make car! Period.

Thanks for the reply! The more I read and see the SS80, the more I want one - I think I've been bitten by the SS80 bug!
So right now the first preference is the original SS80!

Thank you for the reply! As mentioned above I'm (and my father) really keen on getting a SS80 and restoring it to pristine condition.

Spent a good 1.5 hours looking through this thread and the Deluxe version seems to be the pick of the lot!

Pricing wise, we're ok with spending about 40k for purchase - hoping the SS80's at this price range are in good running condition? Would spend more later on for restoring the car!

The main reason why I'm insisting on good running condition is because as soon as we purchase the car it'll be used almost daily in Madras for ~2 months, and only then head of for restoration. Don't mind doing a service (like changing oil, fluids, filters) in this period.

Hoping I find a light blue/brown/red one! Can't wait!

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

I own a SS80 DX, original red colour with AC and radial tyres.

The SS80 is a great car for cities, the mileage is reasonably good. The AC is slightly better than the newer Maruti 800.

The body work is excellent especially the door hinges, and I believe better than most of the modern cars. There is absolutely no rattling, squeaking sounds even on bad roads, this is probably because most of the parts are in metal rather than plastic.

The car always gets admiring looks everywhere.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Hi arbj2,

Nice to come across another SS80 owner in the forum. Please do share photos of your ride. Yes these cars were made with better quality components. And they do last a long time. I am sure you have kept your car really well.

Has the car been with you since new?

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

A very clean and original SS80 DX which I saw at service center y'day. I assume this car belongs to fellow BHPian JayD.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Can anyone suggest source for getting strut mount bushes for the SS80.
Can the Omni Strut bush be used.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Refer my query posted earlier, all your valuable comments are welcome.

Parts compatibility between SS80 and Omni is heard of, but does any one know about the strut bushes?

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Yesterday afternoon, I spotted a Red colour Maruti 800(SS80) parked near some Government Flats in Moti Bagh, New Delhi. The car is in good condition with even the metallic strip in the rear tailgate intact. The wheel caps are original with no visible rust and paint seems to be in a good condition also. The owner has given a beige interior to the car replacing the original black interior trim.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

That is an excellent SS80 standard. Very rare to see such well maintained old cars in Delhi. Kudos to the owner. And to you as well for sharing the pic!

The Biege interior goes well with the Red color. Tastefully Done. The Gear knob is beige as well!
