found this pic on OD website, it has round headlamps and a different front bumper plus wheels. This model look wasn't surely launched? or was it?

Nice pic SID. This could be the part of the initial convoy of Suzuki cars that were brought to india and toured major cities of the country in 1982 .
There was the Suzuki ss80, The ST308/carry(Cargo Version), ST308 Passenger Carrier in the convoy.
But initial response was good only for the SS80 and the ST308 and booking for the same commenced I think in 1983. The booking amount of 10000 was taken by the initial panel of dealers.
Later due to the delay the company announced interest on the booking amount.

OTT: I will upload the pics of the original invoice, factory gate pass, temporary certificate Delivery Checklist ...etc of the SS80.

As Promised!

Back in 1983 , some brave souls had the courage to deposit their hard earned money with a Company with a grey past and alleged corruption, only trusting the promise of a Thoroughly modern and fuel efficient hatch back with the much hyped "Japanese Technology". A car, which they had not seen in real.

The Company Said: "Driving would never be the same again".

Whether the car would stand by this promise. People had to wait and see, patiently!

10000 was the booking advance.

1. The allotment no #587 .Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX-allotment-letter.jpg

It is said that computers were used to allot the cars so that the same happens in an unbiased fashion.

2. Nearly 2 years later In 1985 Feb information of the cars delivery reached eager ears in Trivandrum.

But Bad News the Price of the car had increased.

Old Price

Vehicle Price: 47500
ST @ 10% : 4750

Total Amount: 52250

New Price:

A hike of 2200/- for the 800 STD White.

3. Dealers Needed to be paid 5500/- for the Transport and Insurance:

4. MUL on goodwill basis refunded the interest on the Booking amount @7% interest.

6. 12 Days Later the car reached Trivandrum:

On April 29th the car was delivered.

Thanks, Kannan! This nostalgic trip was my uncle's! He had this car for about 18 years.
The car changed hands later.
But the last time I saw the car few months back it was really in good shape.

What do you say a right price would be for these cars let say least and the best. Again I agree things depend on the condition and physical status of the car, its just for an idea.

Least: Have seen cars sold for as low as 12000Rs.
A good 85 Standard that I knew of was sold for 40000Rs recently in Cochin.
If the car is being bought as a cheap runabout then ideal price would be around 20k. If the enthusiast in you wants a concourse example in DX variant then it would be a different story.

If anyone still wants an ss80, they should look for one in delhi. there are plenty of them gathering dust here and people dont value them at all.

^^ Thanks for sharing the pictures. Is the shade of blue the exact same one as the one that was sold? Seems slightly darker, but that might be due to the pictures taken at night using a flash.
