Yes, thankfully the Original Grille is intact

Hopefully, and with your and all other SS80 enthusiasts help.

Please let me know what these problems are as i am unaware of them. Also my ac guy is more enthusiastic than me to get the right stuff in here. We will be putting a smaller, similar capacity ac if the origional cant be sourced.

786....the revered digits. People would pay anywhere, a huge amount to get these three numbers incorporated in this sequence in their number plates.

Please let me know what are the original spec tyres on this? Radial i presume. Do we get ones with thin whitewalls?
What do i need to check?
What are the gremlins on this model?
Where do i get the owner's and Service manual of this vehicle?
Where do i get the decorative parts and other stuff for this car?
The car originally came with 12inches bias ply tyres.the radial tyres are same for SB308 and SS80.I doubt whether it ever came with white walls
the major ''gremlins'' in this car are electricals (if they have been tampered with ,if not then you are really safe,
then comes the drive shaft, shock absorbers. The engine is really a time tested one and will go on easily for 2 to2.5 lakh kilometers if used in the proper manner
Getting the owners manual is not that easy,
Inform what specific parts you require and then can advice on the source

I always wonder where I'd get parts for my Esteem Di. For now, I'm able to drive in to a service center and have the Maruti workshops get parts and repair work sourced for other contractors. I don't really like the idea of going to a chor bazaar... I've never been to one but from the name it sounds like a rough neighbourhood.

First of all you are one brave heart to still drive an Esteem D. Now coming to the service & spares of SS80, IMO service centers won't be of any help for a 27 yr old car. Heck. they can't even properly service the said car & i have experienced it personally with one of my friends' car.
Regarding the chor bazaar, talking in automotive terms, its actually a heaven of sorts for old car as well as dud car owners It might sound like a rough neighborhood but its actually a proper market for everything old. I can't comment on why it was & is called CHOR BAZAAR, ( maybe it was a place to sell/buy stolen stuff) but i think Mumbai BHPians can through more light on it.

Mods: Sorry for the off topic post.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Chor Bazar is not a rough neighborhood and neither is inhabited by thieves, well at least not anymore. Yes they do drive a hard bargaion so you may use the word as a simile

It is called Chor Bazar because mist things which got whacked were sold off by some shops here in a flea market. You can still find stuff here which is probably now, bought as scrap and not whacked from someone.

One thing is for sure, these guys can smell a green horn a mile away and their network is faster than any electronic network so if you are looking for something take a local with you.

I wonder if the cars advertised found buyers at the listed price, even though they seem to be well maintained and cared for examples. If they were sold at or close to the prices mentioned, then there must enough of a loyal fan following for the SS80 model.

I like the SS80, but for those prices one could easily buy a post-2000 air-conditioned 5-speed Maruti 800 in decent condition. Powered by the 45bhp 12-valve MPi engine and equipped with booster-assisted brakes, this car is loads of fun to drive - a pocket rocket at very reasonable prices.

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

ss80 DX for sale in Cochin .
have never seen or heard of such an astronomical price being asked for an SS80
http://classifieds.team-bhp.com/buy-...ruti/800.html/
by the way SS80 was never manufactured after 1986 April. So the 1987 model sounds strange!!!

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Could someone post or redirect me to the post differentiating between a std n dx model? Also pictures of these differences would be helpful/appreciated.
What badging did the car come with on the rear? Was it maruti suzuki or just suzuki. Any pics or link to a pic will do.
IIRC white was never an original colour in the ss80?

Badging was always Maruti Suzuki
Francoise white,Apple Red, Powder blue and New Zealand Brown were the colours in the first year of production, later green shade also came

The original Maruti Suzuki 800 DX had an air-conditioner and heater, excellent leather upholstery and if I remember correctly, also came with Dunlop Radial tyres as standard.

Vey very nice car it was in those days.

Also if I remember correctly it was only manufactured between 1983 when they introduced it and end 1986 when they were just introducing the new shape. I had one which was produced in 1984. Lovely car. My first car bought for an astronomical 75000 Rs in 1996. Its original invoice price read as Rs. 42500/-!

Re: Maruti Suzuki SS80 DX

Guys,

The post is currently unavailable as I have added few more pics and waiting for mods to approve it.
This is the same car which Jai Krishnan "Jai3033" had in Chennai. I think Ajay knows bit more history to this car than I do.
