as on 2003 the price breakup for petrol in mumbai is like this. kindly note thhis does not show customs duty inposed on crude
basic price of petrol 15.15
octroi 0.91
Excise duty 4.82
addl excise duty 7.50
28.38
sales tax on 28.38 8.53
surcharge 1.00
dealer commision 0.68
net price 38.59
here the basic price includes customs duty
here is the link from Hindu
The Hindu Business Line : Tax makes petrol dearer

sales tax on petrol in Delhi is 20 percent and on diesel 12.5 percent
the corresponding figures in UP are at 25 percent and 20 percent respectively. In addition, the state government is levying development charge of one percent.

Will sales tax on petrol ever go? : FICCI in news

Govt taxes to blame for high petrol prices

outlookindia.com | wired

Tehelka - The People's Paper

what i mean to say is 10% tax on 50 fetches rs 5 to govt.
same 10% on 100 fetches govt Rs 10/
so when it 100 govt can make the tax rate 5% and 10% when it is 50. in such case govt revenue does not reduce at all. but govt is not doing it . iinstead it is bluffing to people to oil companies are making loses and it is subsidizing oil prices etc etc. in fact it is getting more and more revenue due to the increase in crude prices

I have filled Shell Super in my Petrol Innova and it costs 54.25/- in Bangalore, they say its because of crude oil prices hike and more tax.

As long as they provide good quality and quantity I will go to Sell.

One thing is sure with Shell i can see Engine is Silky smooth and better performance and 1km extra FE.

Regards,

Ravi.

The new Shell Diesel extra or super or whatever it is called is consistently good. At least for Diesel, before it was just consistently average. Now the new diesel brew is *excellent*. As long as it stays that way, irrespective of price, I would probably be going there.

Shell has further increased the prices. Diesel is Rs.37.25 Compared to Rs.35.23 at IOC/HP/BPCL. Not sure about petrol.

Mods: If relevent please change the Thread heading/topic to Shell increases the fuel price by Rs.2.

Is shell the only pump in bangalore that gives clean fuel? I seriously doubt that. There is a pump opposite Manipal hospital(BP Pure for Sure) which has clean fuel

There are many IOC COCO, BP QnQ pumps which dispense quality fuel too. And at lower price too.

Reliance diesel cost around Rs 38. Private companies are forced to hike their fuel price as the crude oil prices are sky rocketing.

But I wonder whether people will buy from these outlets if the cost is much higher than the PSU outlets.

I dont think there is a big difference between the quality of fuel of private companies and the PSU companies.

What is the general opinion?

Cheers!!

I am not very convinced with the shell diesel, for my ikon diesel, i find Indian oil super diesel to give better mileage and the price diff is also very marginal.

on a patriotic note, i somehow try to increase the profit of our indian comapnies than the private ones

Tanveer. Its close to my home and thats the only pump I use in case I cant reach Shell. I am contemplating whether to rely more on this pump, considering the fuel hike.

There is an IBP pump in Koramanagala, close to Inner ring road signal on the road to asian games village. That is also good.

Tanveer,

Even I was thniking so, I used to fill from this bunk till moved to Shell @OMR . Before i used to get 12-12.5 with BP speed in city. After switching to shell i'm getting 14 in the city consistently. (I'm travelling 5 kmts extra to fill @ Shell). From my experience the best BP filling station in Blore is the one @ kormangla 80 ft road.

Yes its a "BP for sure" approved bunk. Also heard that its a "company operated" pump.(please do not confuse with "company owned - company operated"). I personally feel that no value add for Rs.2 at shell and have decided from next refuelling will be from this BP pump. It is also close to my office, just a small detour on my way back home.

No hike in Hyd though as of TUE 04/12/2007 17:32. Even if there would be a hike i would surely goto Shell itself.

Well my avg fuel expense bill/month is 8000 Rs ... so that accounts to almost 158Liters of fuel.(50.68 Rs/liter)
So if the shell has increased the amount by 2rs/liter an additional burden of 316Rs... that translates to deficit of 6.24L compared to other fuel pumps. hmmm now i'm thinking as to stick to Shell or go to cauvery petrol(lalbaugh west gate).. this bunk is also known for quality petrol
