Scorpio all the way.Have one with a very close relative.Done a lakh kilometers at 95% city usage and all that has gone wrong with the car in this while is a brake booster replacement under warranty.
Everything else is company spec and in perfect running condition.Gives around 9 to 10 with 100% AC on always.
And my relative knows a hoot about maintaining cars.He might not even know the bhp or that its a turbo diesel and still she runs like a dream without complaning.Just serviced every 10 k.
And with this improved mhawk engine i m sure to buy one if need arises a scorpio over the safari

My friend did a Test drive of new safari and he was pretty impressed with this. He has been driving Petrol Viva for about 3 yrs now and he was feeling that it was as easy as driving a car. That sounded very sweet for a SUV of that size and weight.

I have voted for neither. I test drove both the cars/SUVs. In terms of Comfort Safari is surely the best. In terms of features, Safari is still better despite cruise control, steering mounted audio controls and tyre pressure monitor and intellipark, intelli head lights / wiper in Mhawk. Both have good bits and bad bits. However, Mhawk pulls better, more manageable and in my area sales and after sales service of Scorpio is better but then none match my expectations, hence, waiting for Diesel Captiva.

I have got it from pretty good sources that the Scorpio Hawk is actually tuned for 138 BHP rather than the professed 120 BHP. This is it seems due to some ARAI regulations based on Engine / Vehicle Size versus the Power and the subsequent Price advantages or some stuff like that.
But apart from the fit and finish issues in the TATA Safari VTT everything else is great. Hope TATAs will take a clue which is being voiced by quite a few folks and provide an improved vehicle.

you got it right man instead of paying 11 to 12lakh for these 2 its better to shell out 2 or 3 lakh more and buy a captiva base model

In one of this month's auto magazines there is a comparion between the 2.2 Safari and the 2.2 Scorpio. The magazine has given the Scorpio 4/5 stars, while the Safari got 3.5/5.
No wonder i forgot the name of the magazine

Maybe the same mag that found the Safari wanting in a elk/cone test.

Bad magazine , naughty magazine for saying anything against the Safari.

I think this new Scorpio looks very nice. This month's ACI has given it a very good review.

The only dissappointing part is it's Price Tag !!

Safari beats scorpio on every front....peep into safari and see the space...and peep into scorpio later on u will struggle to find space...between the 90 degrees straight seats.
safari has its own status...feels rich... and u feel like a king on road.
regarding taxiwalas using Safari.... the fact lies that customers will never enquire for safari just feeling that it will be the most expensive....

potential SUV type enthusiast

hey bhpians all on this thread its the safari over over over the scorpio.

Now i want the owners to let me know which MILL is the best.
CRDE scorpio
2.2 scorpio

or
3.0 ltr
2.2 new safari

I want a to know the above as to decide in spending my money on
as a good engine is like normal BP no tension, and I am planning to use it for long drives.

I dont have a cricket team size family,
interiors dont matter much,
suspension to soak up medium potholes (craters excluded)
cruising between 80 to 100 / 110kmph max
a basic cd player / ac / simple electricals will do

It seems majority of us seem to love Safari and no wonder the poll stats show this. Hope Mahindras wake up to this fact that there is something missing despite the better sales figures. Unless they just dont care.
