But they have are givng good discounts on all their models except swift and sx4. Saw in today's paper. It might be their gimmick to sell more in the year end and all the manufacturer's will be offering a huge discounts in Dec. They cannot suddenly rise the price in jan-08. It will certainly affect the company.

Really!!!! Let them.

(Reminds me of this)
Once when I was small, had gone to a tourist spot. The local authority there arranges buses for local sightseeing and we were waiting for that. Within minutes, we were surrounded by taxi / auto wallahs; and they were like "sir, it costs more to travel on the bus than on our vehicle"!!!

Add to that, the petrol and diesel rates are on the brink of going up which will lead to further increase in those prices!

A regular marketing gimmick played by all the car companies to sell of the stocks and achieve the targets. TOI has news on the front page today that all cars are increasing the prices - Maruti, Hyundai, GM...all they blame is increasing raw material costs.

It is a mix of all I guess...end of year liquidation of inventories, marketing strategy as well as increase in input costs. The last reason also sounds credible as raw material contracts are usually for a year and likely that the suppliers would have asked for higher prices starting Jan 2008

In India, the introduction of a new Model Year (MY) car happens in the new year while in some markets, new MY cars are shipped as early as Aug or Sept the previous year. This helps the manufacturer/dealer in steadying sales without giving out too much of a discount

Right, the price hike announcement during end of the year is mostly to clear the stocks. I am sure lot of people are flocking at maruti and hyundai showrooms to save 12K

Maruti, Hyundai and GM to increase prices

This article states that Maruti, Hyundai and GM are going to increases prices whereas Honda would not be changing any for now.

I don't think this is going to make too much difference bcos the dealers are just going to start decreasing the discounts...
