NEW DELHI: The Indian automotive industry is gearing up to stamp its authority on the international arena with the Auto Expo that will witness four global launches of new cars, including the much-touted Tata's Rs one-lakh car.

With around 2,000 participants and 1,20,000 square feet of display area, the 9th Auto Expo would be next only to the Shanghai Motor Show in terms of space occupied and is expected to host over 12 lakh visitors during January 10-17.

"This time around not only our display area has doubled but the participation has also increased considerably. There will be four global launches of cars out of a total of 25 new launches during the expo, which is inclusive of components," CII Deputy Director General Gurpal Singh told PTI.

In terms of business, he said, this year's expo is likely to generate double the amount from the last one. The 8th Auto Expo two years ago did a business of over Rs 10 crore.

He said of the 2,000 exhibitors, as many as 60 per cent are domestic while the remaining are global players. Adding a feather to its cap is the fact that the Auto Expo has received accreditation from OICA (Organisation Internatinale Des Constructeurs D'automobiles) of France.

Organized jointly by Confederation of Indian Industry, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers and Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India, the 9th Auto Expo would be open for general public from January 10-17 at Pragati Maidan here. Entry tickets have been priced at Rs 500 for business and Rs 150 for general public.

Yes, it was announced today. Expected in the Indian market in 18 months. It is a diesel electric hybrid mated to a six speed automatic gearbox. The diesel engine is the 2.2 liter one.

Hope Royal Enfield launches the new engine at Auto Expo. They already have a bike with new engine here at Tvm bit with strict orders not to show to anyone.

Went to press launch today at Auto Expo. There were couple of launches and new releases. Most of the participants were still building their stalls. I apologize for poor pictures as they were taken from my phone.

Audi : The best stall hands down. They previewed new A4 which will be launched in coming months. Also on display were R10 Le Mans race car, fully loaded A8 W12 - Sline in Golden / Beige color with B&O ICE, A6 - Blue, Q7 SLine - Quattro in chocolate metallic brown and not to forget stunning Audi TT in white.

Mercedes Benz - Launched much awaited C Class, will showcase their regular S, E, CLK, SLK, M Class vehicles.

BMW - Launched stunning BMW M3, and showcased Individual 650 convertible and 7 Series along with 3, 5, X3 & X5.

Volvo - Also showcased S80 / XC90 and convertible

Skoda - Had a huge stall showing Laura, Fabia, Roomster etc with different variants & colors and of course in the presence of pretty girls.

Liqui Moly (Oil Company) - Though the stall was under progress we checked out stunner behind their container. BMW E46 track car shod with slicks, totally stripped interior to barebones, single seat and roll cage like a web. God knows whats underneath the hood. Beautiful machine, definitely a showstopper.

Fiat :Had interesting stall showing of cute 500 along with Linea, Grande Punto, Beautiful Bravo and good old palio.

Other car manufacturers :

VW lineup included Tiguan, Phaeton, Toureg, Jetta, Passat, and Up! (the small car).

Tata Motors : Launched the new Indica, Sumo Grande etc.

Honda & Hyundai cars were under cover but definitely Honda Jazz is on display along with regulars like civic, city, crv and accord. Hyundai has the new concept vehicle along with the current lineup.

In Trucks there are regulars like TATA, Volvo etc along with MAN & AMW.

Mahindra is showcasing their new monster AXE and Biodiesel and Hybrid Scorpio.

Maruti along with regulars have a showstopper A- Star.

In Bikes Suzuki and Honda were through with their preperations Yamaha, TVS etc were still building their stalls. Bajaj has a new centre of attraction, their new car along with the bikes.

Suzuki is showing off BKing, Hayabusa, Bandit etc.

Honda has CBR600/1000, Hornet, Repsol MotoGP bike.

And last but not the least as Gunbir says the Bentley of bikes "Triumph Rocket III" being uncrated.

Would badly miss the event. Any idea if any TV channel(s) is/are going to provide live telecast of this 9th Auto Expo ?

EDIT : Not those 1 minute or 2 minute live/recorded clippings in between news.
