Talk about safety and airbags is a bit rich coming from Maruti. This is hilarious. Somebody wake up Mr Osama Suzuki before he puts his other foot in.

Responsibility of an auto manufacturer? Come on now, this from the people who make 800, Zen, Alto, Estilo, Versa, Esteem and best of all Omni - by far the most dangerous thing on wheels in India. How can we take Mr Osama seriously ever after this, Suzuki of all auto manufacturers cannot speak creditably about safety and such. Even 8 lakh cars don't have airbags in the current market situation in India, you can hardly expect Tata'a 1 lakh car to have it.

Ratan Tata is a man of integrity, the Indica is his vision and look at what a success its been. I know innovation and R&D is not an Indian strength but at least Tata motors is trying.

But its them only who are commiting blasphemy by claiming the said contraption to be safer than a S-class Merc. Comments like this will actually go down well with the huge mass that is not aware.

I bet my Swift VDI doesn't have all the safety features that the equivalent model sold in Europe does.

A most unfortunate shooting of self in foot.

But we are so lapping up these cars, even if this guy said. "My products are cheap crap" like the once-famous cheapo-jewellery chain owner in UK, Mr Ratner, we'd probably go on buying them.

Hypothetical example: I don't think they are crap; just cheap.

As the time's nearing to take out the curtains from the 1L car, Suzuki's getting more and more nervous it seems, which is prompting them to come out with such statements.

Its like the pot calling the kettle black! Suzuki continues to sell a 20 year old car unchanged, without airbags or ABS. Their quality control has gone for a toss on all their new models. Instead of getting better with time, they are getting worse.

Tata atleast keep on improving their quality with engine, ECU and trim upgrades. Maruti should learn from them, but instead it seems their defense is to bad mouth them!

This, coming from a manufacturer that sells 20 yr models with no active safety features. Classic case of sour grapes.

Bad Bad Maruti. They have no right to make such statements. But I think this is the only thing they can do to counter 1 lakh car. They themselves don't have any.

If TATA manages to make the 1 Lakh car on level with the M-800, then & only then will there be serious competition because i feel there is a serious price cut in the offing for the M-800. Remember, the first 800 was sold for 45k & called the common man's car.

Maruti has always been a dominant player market, crushing the opposition in one way or the other. In fact the KRA of the Sales teams are based upon the increase in market share that they are able to achieve, making them aggressive at every step of their careers. However now the top brass also seems to have felt the heat from the market, to which obliviously they will respond back by making statements which they themselves cannot support.
Maruti admitting that their cars are were never what buyers ought to have got, is equal to George Bush admitting that it was his mistake to attack Iraq. Both are never going to happen, the latter may be 10 years down the line...

The statement is from Mr Osama Suzuki who does not have the credibility of providing cars with features nowhere equal to the same models launched in other part of the world. This clearly shows that Maruti and Suzuki are feeling the heat and this is good for the consumres.

Osama Scrooge (aka Suzuki) should ask himself `whether they are shouldering their responsibilities as an auto maker' by selling flimsily built cars that come out near the bottom in global quality rankings. How responsible is to the Indian public to `launch' a car (Estilo) that was on the coverpage of Overdrive in Nov/Dec 1999, as a car to be launched soon, then was launched in Japan, flopped, and then all the dies/moulds were shipped to a third world country.
