Is it just me, or do the front seats on the MJD look broader and more comfortable than the ones in the Stile?

It seems that this time Alfredo Altavilla, chief executive officer of the Turin-based Fiat Powertrain Technologies is very much serious about *** of FIAT cars.

From the article posted on the sify website:

Quote:
We will make 70,000 Fiat cars and the balance will be Tata cars till 2010.
A total of 70,000 Fiats produced in 2010? Thats about 5900 units per month including the all new Palio coming in 2009, Grande Punto and Linea? Isnt that a very conservative figure for a country where auto sales are set to zoom with a surging economy? Come on Fiat, Maruti sells 7000+ Swifts (majority of them equipped with YOUR diesel engine) and 3000+ Petrol SX4's every month in 2008!

Well I thought this was going to be cheaper than the Swift. The Swift Ldi is 4.73 lacs ex-showroom Delhi. Lets hope the Palio has more features in the base model than the Swift Ldi.

if the palio is priced in the league of swift then swift is a clear winner.presence of swift on the road is better than a palio and more over swift is already an established brand .there should be a minimum price difference of 25-30 thousand for that thing to sell.

I get the feeling that FIAT is more on a suicide mission than on a war path. Why would any Non-Fiat fan even think about buying the Palio MJD if its priced in the same category as the Swift D ? And the cheaper Indica Quadrajet would take the sales away once launched. I dont see a particularly bright future for the Palio MJD, not at the current pricing anyways. But then, it seems Fiat intends to sell around 1000 units per month of the Palio (petrol + diesel). That not very optimistic now, is it? So maybe they already are aware of the fact that the Palio MJD cannot become a runaway success. 4.5 L should be a better price for this car.

Any idea of the torque and bhp ratings of the Palio 1.3 MJD?

I think we are jumping the gun, as per Fiat sources Palio MJD will be cheaper to Swift D by 30 to 40K!

So let us wait for a month or two for the actual price & then start comparing Palio Vs Swift.

Here are the words from Alfredo Altavilla, CEO FIAT.

"We will make 70,000 Fiat cars and the balance will be Tata cars till 2010. This number will not drive us to be the leader in terms of market share. Fiat is keen on addressing the high end of the segments. We want to be seen as a premium brand in the B and C segments and not as a volume maker,” he reiterated."

I agree with this.
Besides the top end Palio has lot more features than the top end Vdi.

You're right, the current price is ballpark only. Though FIAT said the same price to me during our Expo meeting, the real price will be announced on the launch only. Lets hope for the best.
