Maruti announces huge discounts for Year end

from the mint news site:

Maruti announces savings up to Rs57,500 for its customers

The discount comes just before the company is expected to hike prices of its various models by up to Rs2,000 for which it has already written to its dealers

New Delhi: Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) rolled out a special savings scheme on 18 December -- Happy Customer Offer -- under which it will sell cars at discounted prices ranging from Rs18,500 to Rs 5 7,500 across various models. The discount comes just before the company is expected to hike prices of its various models by up to Rs2,000 for which it has already written to its dealers.

Under the new savings scheme, MSIL would offer a discount of Rs18,500 on Omni, while its flagship hatchback Maruti 800 would come cheaper by Rs26,000. The maximum discount of Rs57,500 is being offered on mid-size sedan Esteem. The company’s best selling hatch Alto would come at a discount of Rs24,500, while Wagon-R petrol and LPG would come cheaper by Rs45,000 and Rs24,500 respectively. A discount of Rs48,000 is being offered on Zen Estilo. The discount being offered across various models also includes finance payouts and exchange bonus apart from the customer offer. However, the company is not offering any discount on its premium hatchback Swift (both diesel and petrol) and premium sedan SX4 as demand continues to outgrow supply.Various car makers announce hefty discounts to beat slump in sales during December when customers postpone their buying decision.

----

So is this also indicating that maruti is upto some fast selling to give away the cars before launching something new? or perhaps making 800 real cheap later? or the usual freight costs reason to increase a 2 lac 800 to 4 lac?

A couple of weeks back, when the company mentioned discount of about 35K, the cash discount (the real tangible benefit for most of us) on WR(P) was only about 20K.

I hope that the cash discount part has increased instead of something silly like exchange bonus...

57 k for Esteem!

That would make it 4.7lac OTR here in Tvm.

57K for esteem? I just enquired and they said only 35K and may be they can provide some freebies... this 57k may include the exchange bonus i guess. If that was a loyalty bonus, i would be happy since I own a Zen

I have also seen the ads, but looks like no discounts for Swift or SX4 (why ?). So, perhaps it is to clear the year-end inventory for other cars, as others have also mentioned.

Why would they want to give discounts on Swift and SX4 where they already are not able to meet the demand. Demand > Supply => No discounts.

question on discounts

When maruti announces discounts of say 25k oncar, is it on the invoice price ? If so, shouldn't the road tax and insurance amount also come down propotionately ?

The dealers mostly show the discount as adjustments against the on-road price and dont lower the ex-showroom price on the invoice. So, I guess you would continue to pay the standard amount as road tax.

Maruti knows by huge discounts it can create major sales because new look WagonR when launched it sold 5000 untis a monht now its doubled its because people understood its practicality for City use compared to its compitators and also Maruti has done very good marketing trick when there is new launch by compitators.

Maruti has read Indian public very well and its cars deserve discounts because that saved money one can use it to buy few accessories and incresse NVH levels etc..

When I baught Swift VXI after I spent almost 50k rupees to make it look limited edition still it didn't cost me what I could paid to Getz.

Regards,

Ravi.

i checked it out.... its like x amount + exchange amount + Loan Discount al together makes the total (UPTO) amount. The actual amount is very less in each car.

True buddy If they offer say X amount then the total cash discount is X/2 only i.e on 50k they'll give 25k max cash discount then add to it all common toppings exchange bonus and finance payout. This scheme is there for last 4-5 months. I'm observing very closely. I wonder if they will be able to sell even single car without these cash discounts / schemes. Its gonna be cut throat competition in 2008!!
By the way I'm waiting for them to give a discount on Swift!!! only then i'll buy it. nerdish thought
