Do you like the new Landcruiser Prado?

Saw the CNBC Autocar show last nite where they reviewed the Toyota Landcruiser Prado. As Team-BHPians would know, Toyota Kirloskar India has officially launched this baby in India with a price tag of almost 40 lacs.

I hate it. SUVs are all about character and I think the Prado has none. Its too small, tall and narrow. And I have read so much of how the Prado loses out to its predecessors in off-road capabilities. It may still do its job off the road, but its nowhere as close to the earlier LC's.

I would rather save 30 lacs and be happier with the MIGHTY 80 Series LandCruiser which was in production from 1991 - 1997. Its H-U-G-E stance, varied engine options, supreme off-road capabilities and relatively simpler engineering just appeals to me more than any of the new SUVs.

I testdrove one from Choksis and have been in love with it ever since. The best example I have seen to far is Shiv Senas dark green one. Superb.

Whats your pick?

Land Cruiser 80 Series!

Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: I hate the old Prado, the new one is much better. But, they are too ugly compared to the other SUV's. The thing that gets very irritating is the mirror-image Prado sticker on the old Prado's LHS.

Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series: The Land Cruiser 80 Series rocks. Its HUGE, its capable of off roading and its more spacious. Its also got good presence. Had taken pics of one of them about two weeks back, will post them sooner or later.

Toyota Land Cruiser 101 Series: This one is becoming too common. But still I prefer it even to the Pajero's and LX470's. Have a pic of it and will post it alongwith the 80 Series pic. Some of them are actually brought to India after being converted into a Lexus LX470.

I dont like the new Prado and nor did i like the Prados of the previous generation. If it was LCs i liked the ones from the 80's and the early 90s . The current generation Prados just dont have that character. I even like the old 4 Runner. If its not one of these LCs its the Land Rover/Range Rover or Cayenne.

I particularly like this one

My vote 80s Landcruisers

SS, u really like the G class? I fail to understand how Mercedes can design such a bad looking car. Don't know too much abt the off-road capabilities but the looks just turns me off.

Abt the landcruiser, I think I'd pick the new Prado over any other SUV. However, the older generation Prado is much better!

Range Rover or the new Discovery for me. If I have to spend big money I'll spend it on something I really lust after.
If I have to buy a Land Cruiser, it'll be the 80 Series.

the G was designed for the german army so can do much more than what joe public would want. Looks aside, it is capable and hardly changed for the past 20vyears except for the engine. The yanks love it. See one in action in the THe Bourne Supremacy

Nissan, Mercedes AND ....... !

Apart from the Toyota's and Lexus, I love the Nissan Patrol and the G-Wagon:

But the ultimate is of course > The Hummer!

Not a big fan of SUVs, but the new Prado is absolutely horrible. It looks as if the design sketches fell into a pot of radioactive waste before being put into production. The 80 Series still holds it's looks, while I do prefer the Pajeros. The Hummer is an absolute no-no unless in the military guise.
