A refreshing article after some time. All these days, it was being projected like, the car would be the worst thing that would happen to India.

Yes Mr. Tata definitely needs to be complemented for the sheer guts to dream this and bring it into a reality. We are proud of u Mr. Tata (and the Team which made it possible).

I read somewhere that Mr.TATA seen a family of 4 driving in rain on a 2 wheeler and thats when this vision came to him. We should really appreciate the great man for making this vision a reality. All people dream, but not all dreams come true. This dream of TATA has not only really come out well but will also fulfill several laks of people dream of buying a car...
hats off to you Mr.TATA... My country needs more of you..

Is TATA eyeing BMW now???

I hope you guys will post pictures of it on the forum.

Also it won't sell as hot cakes. But it will definitely create a market for itself. As rightly mentioned above, many would think of having it as their second car. But in the age of apartments and limited parking slots, it will add to the "Total Cost Of Ownership"

I really wonder, how many of them we will see on highways.

Muhuhuhuhuaaaa! I will be going with my laptop & camera - all I need is an internet connection with a decent speed.

Quoting from the rediff article:

Tata Motors' Rs 1-lakh car has been greeted with a great deal of scepticism, both, at home and abroad. Somewhat unusually, it has been the international business press that has been less sceptical and more open to the idea that Tata Motors might actually pull-off the Rs 1-lakh ($2,500) car and trigger a 'paradigm-shift,' at least at the bottom end of the market.

Guys, you know, I am on an "inspection tour" on 10th.

Guess what I will be inspecting? the TV screen and this forum.

For the people wanting to criticise the 1 lakh car.

Personally, I am not very happy with all forms fo personal transport - two wheelers, autos, taxis and cars coz. they constitute inefficient use of fossil fuel. But what is the alternative? None really. Today's Economic Times has an article which that number of public transport buses is very low - real low - in several cities. My city (Kochi) ranks at the bottom with 9 buses per thousand population. Right now, only people on the buses are the kids (minors who cannot get a driving license), old people (who cannot drive), migrants (those passing through the city for a short time) and the handicapped. Able bodies people are a rarity on buses in Kochi city today. (that is a sweeping statement, and is likely to cause a flame war, but the fact remains that socio - economic profile of people using shared public transport is very different from what it used to be 10 years back).

Before you criticise cars, please make sure that useful and usable public transport is available.
