j,

i think you have said it, very few buyers get in to the niti-gritties of the car engine, specs, . .. what is looked at is the features, average and price and to a extent, second hand price and after sales service.

skoda has snob value- so that might carry it a bit. however, comparing it against the top end fiesta is invalid as its a hatch and the fiesta is a sedan.
I think fiat might score more points if they brign the 1.3MJD by feb (which my source told me is correct, however, they are working on the pricing and that will be reveled closer to the launch date!)

I agree. The one company that can truly deliver the knock-out punch to all others in the diesel segments and its sitting on its brains.

well no offence to fiesta...i personally like one....but if at all we compare...

1. Fabia is just 290mm shorter than fiesta.
2. Fiesta is just 44mm wider than Fabia.
3. Fabia is 30mm taller than fiesta.
4. Fabia has just 24mm shorter wheelbase than Fiesta.
5. Fabia has 33mm low ground clearance than Fiesta.
6. Fiesta has 130ltr extra boot space than Fabia.
7. Fabia diesel is 4bhp powerfull than Fiesta.

Fabia is a premium hatch and it doesnt deserv a comparison with other hatches in Indian auto industry. (Except for Fusion). if i have to compare petrol variants i would compare with Aveo (again no offense, Aveo is also one of my fav cars in India, Aveo has the worldclass insulation levels)

Fabia is going to as spacious as Fiesta. forget the boot (you will use it hardly 2-3 times in a year).

Even the topend Fiestas and Aveos would not match features of Fabia.

this car can be a huge hit. 10000 ppl on team bhp might not buy the car saying its underpowered. but a million other indians who dont care anything about the car besides that its a skoda and they could never afford the octi new will buy it for sure. people will use this car for 40k and then will be on sale again used car mart. typical skoda cars. becuase after 40k kms the real colours show up...

The difference in length is 29cm man. Thats not so small. And 130 lts of boot space is not small either.

And 69 - 68 = 1 BHP. Thats the power advantage the Fabia has over the Fiesta.

And from what i could find on the net the Fiesta has a torque advantage of 5 Nm with 160 Nm compared to Fabia's 155 Nm.

IMHO, the Fabia and Fiesta are two completely different cars and the target customers are are also different.

fiat will not possess a great threat as the Indian car industry has never seen a phoenix. there are no great come back stories in this INdustry.

We are discussing only about the hatch. What about the Fabia Sedan. When they price the hatch they have to leave little bit of room below 10 Lakh to introduce the sedan later.

The build quality and features offered justifies the price of this premium hatch. Most people in India do not care for the engine specs. The brand value of Skoda is much higher than Suzuki/ Hyundai. I hope they will get the A.S.S right. All the best to Skoda Fabia.
